Chris Gotterup’s winning highlights from Genesis Scottish Open

The PGA TOUR will once again head across the Atlantic for the Genesis Scottish Open, boasting an incredible top-ranked field.

The event, co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour, will be contested at The Renaissance Club for the eighth time.

Marking the final tune up for most of the game’s best prior to The Open Championship, the Scottish Open is delightful start to a summertime stretch.

Here’s everything else you need to know from Scotland.

FIELD NOTES: Chris Gotterup prepared as best he could for his title defense at the Genesis Scottish Open: He won the John Deere Classic on Sunday. Gotterup, who fired a final-round 9-under 62 and won by one shot over Max Homa, is looking to become the first golfer to ever successfully defend his title at the Scottish Open. Gotterup has had an incredible campaign so far in 2026, with his win at the John Deere Classic his third already this season. … Rory McIlroy returns to the happy hunting ground of The Renaissance Club, as he’s gone T2-T4-1 the last three seasons. McIlroy has had three top-10 finishes so far this season including his triumph at the Masters. … World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler begins his prep for his title defense at The Open with another spin around the Scottish Open, where he finished T8 last year. Scheffler has nine top-10 finishes in 14 starts this season including two playoff losses. His worst finish of the year, a T24, came all the way back in March at Bay Hill. … The other major champs this year are also teeing it up with Aaron Rai and Wyndham Clark back in action. Rai won this event in 2020, the second year it was contested at The Renaissance Club, while Clark is looking to continue his incredible springtime stretch now into the summer months. Clark won THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in May and has since gone 3-T11-1-T5 since – including winning his second U.S. Open title. … Clark (who has four straight top-25 finishes at the Scottish Open), Scheffler, McIlroy and Gotterup are four of six top-10 golfers in the world teeing it up – the others include Matt Fitzpatrick and Tommy Fleetwood. Fleetwood and Fitzpatrick were runners’ up in back-to-back years (2020-21) at the Scottish. … Scotland’s own Robert MacIntyre looks to rekindle some magic at The Renaissance Club. MacIntyre, who finished one back of McIlroy in 2023 before winning his home country’s open in 2024 in dramatic fashion, has four top 10s so far this season including in his last start at the Travelers Championship.

COURSE: The Renaissance Club, par 70, 7,282 yards. This will be the eighth edition of the Genesis Scottish Open hosted at the Tom Doak-designed club, opened in 2007, that’s located between North Berwick and Muirfield, both iconic Open Championship layouts. The 18 holes of The Renaissance Club were carved out of 300 acres of pine forest but kept a number of trees in strategic fairway and greenside positions. Five years after the course opened, a land swap arrangement with The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers (Muirfield) allowed the club to build three new holes along the coastline.

72-HOLE RECORD: 262, Bernd Wiesberger (2019), Robert MacIntyre (2024)

18-HOLE RECORD: 61, Bernd Wiesberger (second round, 2019), Byeong Hun An (first round, 2023), Chris Gotterup (second round, 2025)

LAST TIME: Chris Gotterup managed to hold off Rory McIlroy in the final round to win by two shots over McIlroy and Marco Penge. Gotterup shot a final-round, 4-under 66. He bogeyed his opening hole Sunday but rallied with three birdies in his following seven. McIlroy, meanwhile, also had three birdies on his opening nine holes but was even par on his final 10 holes Sunday and couldn’t push Gotterup any further. Gotterup tied the course record, a 9-under 61 in the second round, and his win earned him a spot in The Open Championship.

Nicolai Højgaard and Matt Fitzpatrick rounded out the top five, finishing at 12 under and three back of Gotterup.
