With one of the most scenic courses in the world hosting the first Signature Event of 2026, the PGA TOUR has unveiled a number of new broadcast enhancements around its coverage of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to give fans and viewers more information and better context around the shots being hit by the best players in the world.
These innovations, representing the latest innovations from the TOUR’s Fan Forward initiative, are designed to elevate the viewing experience through cutting-edge technology and fresh content that enhances storytelling and showcases player skills.
Here’s a look at some of the most notable enhancements as coverage of the 80-man event began on Thursday:
PGA TOUR Drone AR
For the first time, two drones equipped with PGA TOUR’s Drone AR technology were utilized to showcase the iconic scenes of Pebble Beach Golf Links and bring fans closer to the game. This technology adds a new depth and detail to live coverage, building upon contextual visualizations and data-driven stories executed in real time.

The drone coverage combined with Smart Trace to track a pair of early tee shots from Ben Griffin and Shane Lowry, with colors changing based on the likelihood of the ball ending up in the fairway:

The TOUR’s Live Drone AR, which was awarded The George Wensel Technical Achievement Award at the 46th Sports Emmy Awards in 2025, began using Smart Trace to track the path of tee shots at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open.
Tee Shot Tracing with Multiple Drones
What's better than one drone monitoring a scenic tee shot from a top TOUR pro? How about two. Thursday marked the first time drone-to-drone shot tracing was utilized in golf broadcast coverage, with one drone equipped with the TOUR's Drone AR technology following tee shots to apex with another similarly equipped drone picking up the ball from apex to landing.
The comprehensive visualization gives viewers added insight in real time, as seen with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler's opening-round tee shot on No. 9 at Pebble Beach:

Weather Applied Metrics
Few courses in the U.S. can rival Pebble Beach for how much – and how quickly – weather can become a factor. It makes this event a great place to feature insight from Weather Applied Metrics, a sports tech company that utilizes advanced 3D modeling to quantify the impact of elements like wind, temperature and humidity. Additionally, Virtual Eye, a New Zealand-based company specializing in 3D sports graphics, has been providing the visualization of the Weather Metrics along with the Drone AR technology.
This technology allows broadcasters to visualize the impact of wind and weather on ball flight and performance, as shown in the below clip with Lowry, a runner-up at Pebble Beach last year:
