The 124th U.S. Open returns to Pinehurst, North Carolina, to Pinehurst No. 2, which will host the event for first time in 10 years and the fourth time overall.
The U.S. Open features a $21.5 million purse, a $1.5 million increase from last year, with the winner taking home $4.3 million, up from $4 million in 2023.
U.S. Open rookie Ludvig Ã…berg sits atop a crowded leaderboard at 5-under heading into the weekend at Pinehurst. The 36-hole cut settled at 5-over and saw 74 players make it to the weekend, including Scottie Scheffler who made the cut on the number after a second-round 74. With only 10 shots separating Ã…berg from the cut line, players will be jockeying for position through Sunday vying for a chance at a larger share of the $21.5 million purse.
While 74 players made the cut, three that made the weekend, Neal Shipley, Luke Clanton and Gunnar Broin, are competing at Pinehurst as amateurs.. Because of this, Shipley, Clanton and Broin are not eligible to receive prize money at the conclusion of the tournament and therefore only 71 players are accounted for when breaking down the purse distribution.
