PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA – The PGA TOUR announced an hour-long special, titled PGA TOUR 2019: The Nicklaus Method presented by Nationwide, will air Sunday, May 26, 2019 at 2 p.m. ET on CBS as a lead-up to the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide.

Nicklaus is lauded internationally for his 120 professional victories worldwide, including 73 PGA TOUR wins and a record 18 major championship titles; his induction into the inaugural World Golf Hall of Fame (at only 34 years old); and for being a recipient of both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal—our nation’s highest civilian honors. The individual components that resulted in Nicklaus’ extraordinary career will receive further exploration in The Nicklaus Method.

Along with the words of Nicklaus himself, the show will delve into aspects of his greatness including first-hand accounts from his playing peers and expert examinations from scientists from a variety of fields. Combined, these will establish a detailed foundation for what allowed the Golden Bear to excel throughout his World Golf Hall of Fame career.

Produced by PGA TOUR Entertainment, the show will examine the many facets of Nicklaus’ rise to greatness through the following topics:

    Distance Domination
With the driver in hand, Nicklaus’ strong swing gave him a distinct advantage over his fellow competitors. Physicist Dr. Robert Neal, who studies the biodynamics of a golf swing, will detail the physics and fundamentals of Nicklaus’ timeless golf swing using analysis and in-depth breakdowns of the Golden Bear’s game.

    The Legacy of the 1-Iron
Nobody excelled with a 1-iron in their hands quite like Nicklaus. The special will focus on the shot that sealed his victory at the 1972 U.S. Open. As the 1-iron has essentially gone extinct in today’s game, the CBS special will highlight current PGA TOUR players taking their crack with a 1-iron to assess its overall difficulty and the legacy Nicklaus left behind.

    Mental Strength & Focus
Incorporating assessments from an Ohio State University sports psychologist, the show will walk through the mental processes and practices that allowed Nicklaus to outthink and outperform his competitors. Expert analysis will show what occurs neurologically in pressure situations, and why Nicklaus was so adept at focusing his mental strength on the golf course.

    Unique Putting Approach
As Nicklaus consistently found himself in title contention, his unique putting stance was on display more than any other golfer during his prime. The curved back, with his eyes directly over the golf ball has become a characteristic etched into the game’s history. Teaching professionals and players will break down Nicklaus’ putting stroke.
