Cameron Champ interview after winning Sanderson Farms
In just his second start as a PGA TOUR member, Cameron Champ found the winner's circle at Sanderson Farms Championship. Keyed by his driver and some pinpoint approach shots, Champ coasted to a four-shot win at the Country Club of Jackson.
Up until the 13th hole, the tournament appeared to be in doubt for Champ, who saw his three-shot lead reduced to one early on the back nine. That's when the 23-year-old stepped on the pedal with five birdies over his final six holes.
Four of the birdies came from inside 10 feet, as Champ launched tee shots of 343, 322 and 338 yards with his PING G400 Max driver, setting up approaches from inside 160 yards with a setup consisting of PING iBlade and Glide scoring clubs.
Champ finished first in driving distance for the week, averaging 308 yards on all holes while also ranking second in Strokes Gained: Off-the-tee.
Although it's not the most talked-about part of his game, Champ finished second in Strokes Gained: Putting (plus-2.27 per round) with a PING PLD Mid Tyne 4 Prototype that's earned the nickname "PrimeTyne." Champ was front and center all week with the flat stick en route to his maiden TOUR title.
