AUSTIN, Texas — Bubba Watson cruised to victory in the championship match of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play with a 7 & 6 win over Kevin Kisner for his second PGA TOUR title in the last five weeks.
A strong showing with the putter kept Watson ahead of the competition at Austin Country Club, where he ranked 12th in the field in Strokes Gained: Putting (plus 5.641) using a PING PLD Anser Prototype.
According to PING Tour rep Christian Pena, Watson's custom carbon steel milled Anser was originally made for Aaron Baddeley. But Watson liked the look and feel of the putter so much that he had one made to his specifications.
Watson started using the putter at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am but went back and forth with the loft, starting with 3.5 degrees at Pebble Beach before settling on 4.5 degrees at the Genesis Open.
Watson recently added more shaft lean at impact, which required additional loft to be added to the head. Before this year, it wasn't uncommon for Watson to have a putter with anywhere from 2.5 to 3 degrees of loft. Last year, Watson went all the way down to 2 degrees at Riviera — a significant change from what he had when won in February at the same course.
Here's a look at Watson's entire equipment setup.
