Jordan Spieth will be teeing it up soon in a new trouser from Under Armour. Over the last few years, Under Armour’s Match Play Pant has been Spieth’s preferred choice, but now he will slip on the brand’s new Showdown Pant. Although the name of this pant may spark visions of a high-noon duel in an old western, the Showdown is anything but old-fashioned. Instead, it blends the latest cutting-edge fabric technology with a razor-sharp fit for a sleek and modern look on the course.
During the Showdown’s two-year development process, designers often consulted with Spieth and other Under Armour athletes on the design of the pant. With a goal of helping them to play their best golf, a large part of the development time was spent perfecting the fit. Sure, slimmer silhouettes are in vogue these days, but Spieth and other players like Gary Woodland believed a more streamlined fit would improve their performance as much as it would improve their style. The modern straight leg design requires less fabric, which in turn means fewer distractions and less drag during the swing.
With comfort and performance in mind, Under Armour designers looked at fabrics that would drape well, stretch and move with the golf swing, and most importantly, be comfortable to wear in a variety of conditions. What they developed for the Showdown Pant is an ultra-lightweight material that offers maximum stretch and mobility. In fact, every thread stretches and moves with the player, and the flexibility of the fabric even allowed designers to create a trimmer fit without sacrificing range of motion.
Adding to the comfort and performance of the Showdown Pant is a stretch engineered waistband that has been upgraded from the one on the Match Play Pant. The softer hand feel offers a higher level of comfort, while an improved silicone grip helps to keep players’ shirts in place.
The Showdown Pant is now available in three classic colorways—academy blue, zinc gray, and black. Each colorway features a subtle herringbone pattern for added texture and style.
