Ken Duke's short game gave him the boost he needed to win the Travelers Championship on Sunday. Duke entered the week ranked 117th in strokes gained-putting and ranked 10th in that category. He also came in ranking 99th in scrambling and was third at Travelers. Duke's putting was exceptional at TPC River Highlands. We'll take a look at that, a sneak peek at this week's AT&T National and more by going inside the numbers ...

-37  Par-5 performance at Travelers for Bubba Watson since 2006, which ranks first during that span. Vijay Singh is second at 28 under. … Watson, who won here in 2010 and finished fourth on Sunday, went 6 under on the par 5s at TPC River Highlands this season to lead the field. Now for the unimpressive ...

6  The crooked number Watson recorded at the par-3 16th in the final round. … It ruined Watson’s chances, but also was his first triple bogey at the Travelers in 26 career rounds there. Not only that, but it was the first double bogey or worse for Watson in 188 holes at Travelers.

8  Number of players in the top 10 at last year’s AT&T National at 7,500-yard Congressional that finished the 2012 season ranked in the top 40 in driving distance on the PGA TOUR. … Without question, this week is for the big hitters. Of those top 10 finishers last season, Robert Garrigus (3), Jason Day (7), Jhonattan Vegas (10) and Adam Scott (10) ranked in the top 10 in driving distance at year’s end in 2012.

T9  Stuart Appleby’s finish at the Travelers, this after a final-round 68. … It’s also Appleby’s first top 10 since the 2011 Honda Classic (T10), and first top 25 in 2013 despite making 12 of 16 cuts. Appleby was one of only five players to shoot in the 60s in all four rounds at TPC River Highlands, joining Duke, runner-up Chris Stroud, J.J. Henry and Russell Knox. Perhaps this is a sign of good things to come for the Aussie, whose last big season came in 2010, when he carded a final-round 59 to win The Greenbrier Classic.

33.33 percent  Percentage of putts Duke made from 15 to 25 feet at Travelers. … Duke made five putts in 15 attempts, tying for first in this category with Morgan Hoffmann (5 of 15) and Stroud (4 of 12). Stroud, of course, lost on the second playoff hole to Duke. The field average from that distance was 14.10 percent.

117th  That was Duke’s ranking in strokes gained-putting entering the Travelers Championship. He was losing about a tenth of a shot per round to the field average, or close to a half-shot per tournament to the field average in 2013. … Duke changed that in grabbing his first victory, picking up 1.204 shots per round on the field average and ranking third in SGP for the week. That's close to 5 shots for the entire tournament on the field average. Pretty impressive.
