Introduction to golf came at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; his parents, Alex and Elaine, were vacationing there and saw an ad for free lessons. Without any golf experience, they attended the session and brought Max in a stroller.

One fun fact is that he can read Russian.

Favorite golf memory was watching the 2005 Masters Tournament playoff.

Wife, Alyssa, played four seasons of tennis at Duke (2013-17).

Father, Alex, holds four degrees -- including a PhD in statistics from Rutgers University -- and served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Mathematics at Columbia University from fall 2001 through January 2022, in addition to working as a hedge fund manager during that time; he now works as a chief portfolio strategist.

Mother, Elaine, played collegiate tennis at Rutgers University, earning varsity letters from 1990-92.

Parents were refugees of the Soviet Union from the same area but did not meet until moving to New Jersey.

Amateur Highlights

Played four seasons at Duke University (2013-17), progressing from a 74.9 scoring average as a freshman to 72.07 as a senior.

Won the 2015 New Jersey State Golf Association Amateur Championship, as well as the 2014 New Jersey State Golf Association Open Championship.

Named a 2012 AJGA Rolex Junior All-America Second Team selection alongside Zecheng Dou, Jack Maguire, and Scottie Scheffler.

Played varsity golf at Pine Crest School in south Florida as a seventh grader and eventually attended The Peddie School in Highstown, New Jersey, where he helped the team win three state championships.
