The current stretch of the PGA TOUR leads up to the year's third major -- and some of the best tee markers in the business. Once an afterthought, tee markers are now seen as clever pawns in the marketing game, and some tournaments use them to the fullest.
But it's not all business -- they can be a little fun, too. Here's 10 examples of PGA TOUR tee markers that we like, starting with this week's fun stop at TPC Deere Run.
We also want to hear your opinion about what tee markers you think are the coolest. Read through our list, and comment below.
1. John Deere Classic
The PGA TOUR's annual stop at TPC Deere Run features a number of tractors, excavators and combines. No wonder Louis Oosthuizen famously added this stop to his schedule just so he could check out the equipment for his farm in South Africa.
2. FedEx St. Jude Classic
It's a trend: The best tee markers are tiny vehicles. FedEx trucks are no exception.
3. The Greenbrier Classic
Last week's event has used the resort's famous gazebo since the tournament's inception. The gazebo is also The Greenbrier's trophy. We also think a minature Greenbrier hotel (scaled 1/1,000,000) as a tee marker would work, too.
4. Travelers Championship
The sponsor of the event at TPC River Highlands is very hands-on, which their iconic umbrella everywhere, including a faux green near the 16th tee.
5. The Open Championship
Simple, plain, brilliant. The Claret Jug makes it known what exactly is at stake every July.
6. Valspar Championship
One of the PGA TOUR's newest sponsors paints little doubt what product they are marketing. Also useful for putting a second coat on the clubhouse wall, or enacting revenge on the burglars in Home Alone.
7. Hyundai Tournament of Champions
Hyundai's markers look like mini cars that are perfectly to scale. No word on whether the wheels work. Or the sunroof.
8. THE PLAYERS Championship
The gold swinging man at the PGA TOUR's flagship event matches the decor of the rest of the property.
9. Waste Management Phoenix Open
The tournament manages to get the sponsor, the Thunderbirds' logo, a recycling icon and the event's mantra on a single tee marker. Not bad.
10. RBC Heritage
This special edition marker was used this year at Harbour Town when the event finished on ... you guessed it ... Easter.
