Equipment Report

It's rare that a player wins PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honor with one equipment manufacturer and then departs at the end of the season for another. You have to go back to 2012 when John Huh took home the award as a PING staffer and then promptly left for TaylorMade at the start of the 2013 season.

In a surprise move, Xander Schauffele will follow in Huh's footsteps and sign with Callaway Golf after winning PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year last season as a member of TaylorMade's Tour staff. As part of the agreement, Schauffele will play Callaway woods, irons and wedges, an Odyssey putter and Chrome Soft Golf ball. He'll also sport the company's logo on the side of his hat.

“I’m honored to be a part of the Callaway team,” Schauffele said. “I’m focused on taking my game to a new level and having the right equipment plays a big part in that. I’ve been so impressed with how Callaway clubs have performed for me, from the first time I started testing them during the offseason, and I’ve been using an Odyssey putter for years. So this really was a natural transition, and I’m really confident in how their equipment will help improve every part of my game.”

The 24-year-old won the TOUR Championship, Greenbrier Classic and finished T5 at the U.S. Open in his first full season as a TOUR member. He's currently 25th in the Official World Golf Ranking as he prepares to tee it up this week at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Along with Sergio Garcia, Schuaffele is the second high-profile former TaylorMade staffer Callaway has signed in the last two days.

“Xander is one of the most exciting young players in the game,” said Tim Reed, Callaway's SVP of global sports marketing. “We know he’s going to do great things with our equipment, and we look forward to being there with him every step of the way.”
