    PING Golf's Glide 2.0 wedges

If there's one thing golfers want from their scoring clubs, it's the ability to spin the ball consistently with the proper trajectory. With PING's second-generation Glide 2.0 wedge, engineers solved the issue by adding precision-milled grooves with edge radiuses that are sharper than anything the company has produced previously. 

“As many golfers are aware, we have a lot of knowledge and experience when it comes to evaluating and designing grooves," said John A. Solheim, PING's Chairman & CEO. "We worked closely with our tour staff to improve every aspect of the wedges. The players have been very pleased with the increase in spin rates, overall trajectory control, including lower ball flights, and the consistency of the carry distances. Around the greens, they’re impressed with the turf interaction and how the ball is reacting off the face to give them the precision they need to hit it closer."

The new groove edge was developed by PING's engineering and manufacturing teams using a wheel-cut milling process that produced a sharper edge radius for the lower- and higher-lofted wedges. Going sharper increases the groove interaction with the golf ball cover at impact, which in turns produces more friction for even more spin and trajectory control. 

In the lower-lofted wedges (46, 50 and 52 degrees), the sidewall is milled at 20 degrees with an edge radius of .005" that's optimized for full-shot performance. The higher-lofted versions (54, 56, 58 and 60 degrees) have a sidewall that's 28 degrees and edge radius of .004" to generate more spin, especially on greenside shots. 

Along with sharpening the edge radius, engineers managed to tighten the space between the precision-milled grooves to fit one additional groove in the lower-lofted options, when compared to the groove design on the original Glide. Adding an extra groove increases spin and control on full shots. The higher-lofted versions feature two additional grooves for even more spin on touch shots. 

During testing, Tour players saw spin-rate increases of 1,000-1,500 rpm on partial shots (40 to 70 yards) and more than 500 rpm on full shots, when compared to their current wedges. 

Each compact wedge head is built from 431 stainless — the same head material as iBlade and i200 — and finished with a hydropearl chome that repels moisture for reduced sole friction.

SS Grind  (46-12, 50-12, 52-12, 54-12, 56-12, 58-10 and 60-10 degrees

The Standard Sole grind is an all-purpose mid-bounce sole with heel and trail edge relief to create versatility on touch shots around the green. Ideal for moderate attack angles and divots. Fits most golfers.

WS Grind (56-14, 58-14 and 60-14 degrees)

The Wide Sole grind is a full-sole design that provides turf security for players with a steep angle of attack. The reduced camber and added width prevent the sole from skipping into the ball.

TS Grind (58-06 and 60-06 degrees)

The Thin Sole grind is a PING WRX-inspired design based on the Tour-proven half-moon grind. The TS grind facilitates shot making and precision from even the most difficult lies. The heel relief allows shots to be executed with an open face to difficult pins or from firm lies without fear of the lead edge sitting too high.

ES Grind (54-08, 56-08, 58-08 and 60-08 degrees)

The Eye 2-inspired sole design provides the ultimate in bunker performance, resulting from the classic dish profile along with the tapered hosel. A refined lead edge upgrades all-around performance with the iconic ES grind.

The wedge was also designed with a Dyla-wedge grip that's 3/4 of an inch longer than standard length to encourage gripping down — grip-down markings are at 1 3/8-inch intervals — to control the ball's flight. The AWT 2.0 Wedge shaft is optimized in weight (118 grams), flex and balance for a stable feel and lower flight.

Glide 2.0 is available for pre-order and retails for $150 per club with steel or $175 with graphite.
