Bubba Watson holed a 60-yard bunker shot on the par-5 18th hole for eagle to force a playoff with Tim Clark, and then rolled a 20-foot birdie putt on the first hole of the sudden death playoff to capture his first World Golf Championship.
Watson holed the bunker shot with a new 60-degree PING Prototype wedge that went in the bag for the first time at Sheshan International. The wedge, which is already being used by Watson, Billy Horschel, Louis Oosthuizen and Hunter Mahan, debuted at the Frys.com Open and features a satin finish and more pronounced cavity-back than the company's Tour Gorge wedge.
The custom tuning port (CTP) that expanded the perimeter weighting, boosting MOI, in Tour Gorge is no longer visible in the prototype. It has been replaced by a more discrete CTP similar to what is currently in the cavity of PING's S55 iron.
According to PING Tour reps, the Standard Sole (SS) has been the most popular model due to the way it goes through the turf with a strong launch and controlled spin.
Along with using a new set of wedges, Watson also became the first player to record a victory with Titleist's new Pro V1x prototype ball that launched at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Here's a look at the rest of the equipment in Watson's bag.
