Florida’s Fred Biondi starts season no. 1 in PGA TOUR University Velocity Global Ranking

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – The first full Velocity Global Ranking for the PGA TOUR University Class of 2023 has been released, and Fred Biondi (Florida) will begin the fall season as the No. 1-ranked senior. He is followed by WAGR No. 3 Ludvig Aberg (Texas Tech), U.S. Amateur champion Sam Bennett (Texas A&M), Western Amateur champion Austin Greaser (North Carolina) and U.S. Open low amateur Travis Vick (Texas).
Biondi is joined by teammates Ricky Castillo, John Dubois and Yuxin Lin in the top-25, and the four seniors led the Gators to a season-opening win at the Fighting Irish Classic on Monday. This week, the eight-team field at the Frederica Cup will feature four of the top-10 players in PGA TOUR University: No. 2 Aberg, No. 6 Reid Davenport (Vanderbilt), No. 9 Patrick Welch (Oklahoma) and No. 10 Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira (Arkansas).
The Velocity Global Ranking is updated weekly on Wednesdays and announced on GOLF Channel’s Golf Today, and it will be finalized May 29, 2023, following the conclusion of stroke play at the NCAA D-I Men’s National Championship.
In all, nearly 200 eligible players registered for the Class of 2023 and will compete for an increased set of performance benefits, which were announced last week. The top 10 players will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership next season, with Nos. 1-5 being exempt members and Nos. 6-10 being conditional members. Additionally, players finishing 6th through 20th will be exempt members on PGA TOUR Canada and PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.

The Ranking Period for the Class of 2023 began Week 23/2021 and concludes May 29, 2023, following the final round of stroke play at the NCAA D-I Men’s National Championship. The minimum divisor is 18, and it will be applied to the season's final Velocity Global Ranking.
