MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The PGA TOUR announced its 2018-19 schedule on Tuesday, with the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational set to be contested from July 25-28, 2019, at TPC Southwind. It will mark the first time a World Golf Championships event has been hosted in Memphis.
“We’re extremely excited to welcome a World Golf Championships event to Memphis for the first time and announce our 2019 date,” said WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Executive Director Darrell Smith. “Memphis has been supporting PGA TOUR golf since 1958, and this elevated WGC platform will be monumental for our city. The four days of competition will feature the best players in the world.”
In the 2018-19 schedule, the FedEx St. Jude Invitational will follow the season’s final major championship – The Open Championship – on the schedule and will be followed by the regular season’s final event, the Wyndham Championship, before transitioning into the FedExCup Playoffs, which have been shortened to three events.
The PGA TOUR, on behalf of the International Federation of PGA Tours, announced in April that Memphis’ hometown event will take on a new identity as the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, beginning with the 2018-19 PGA TOUR Season. FedEx has assumed title sponsorship of the event currently known as the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, which has been staged in Akron, Ohio, since 1999.
The PGA TOUR has held a tournament in Memphis every year since 1958 with Colonial Country Club playing host until the event moved permanently to TPC Southwind in 1989. FedEx first became the title sponsor in 1986 and has supported the tournament ever since. FedEx has been involved with the FedEx St. Jude Classic for more than 30 years and has helped raise more than $38 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The World Golf Championships consistently attract the most elite and global fields of the year, with 40-50 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking teeing it up in the series of four annual events.
The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational will be one of four World Golf Championships events on the 2018-19 PGA TOUR schedule sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours. The other World Golf Championships are the Mexico Championship (Mexico City, Mexico), the Dell Technologies Match Play (Austin, Texas) and the HSBC Champions (Shanghai, China). The World Golf Championships collectively have generated more than $60 million for global charities since 1999.
