Advanced to the FedExCup Playoffs for the second consecutive time, ending the season No. 98 in the FedExCup. Made 19 cuts in 27 starts including three top-10s, highlighted by a tie for third at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Barracuda Championship: Opened the Barracuda Championship with 17 points to take a three-point lead over Aaron Baddeley and Denny McCarthy in the Modified Stableford format. Added 19 points the rest of the way (including 10 on the final day) to finish solo-fifth, 11 points behind champion Andrew Putnam. Picked up seven points in his last three holes on Sunday (birdie-par-eagle) to climb into fifth, moving from No. 90 to No. 79 in the FedExCup standings.

Waste Management Phoenix Open: Closed the Waste Management Phoenix Open with a 6-under 65 to finish T3 in his second start at TPC Scottsdale. Final round was highlighted by a four-hole birdie streak (Nos. 12-15).

Sony Open in Hawaii: Posted four rounds in the 60s to finish T7 at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Finished T27 in 2017 in his only other start at Waialae Country Club. Marked his first top-10 of the season and first since a runner-up finish at the 2017 Wyndham Championship.
2017 Season
Finished his first full season on the PGA TOUR ranked No. 60 in the FedExCup standings, with 19 made cuts in 28 starts and five top-10 finishes. ...Advanced to the third FedExCup Playoffs event, finishing the season with a 66th-place finish at the BMW Championship at Conway Farms. Was one of 12 rookies to advance to the FedExCup Playoffs, and one of six to advance to the third event.

Wyndham Championship: Posted the only bogey-free round in the final round at the Wyndham Championship – a 6-under 64 – to finish second and just one stroke behind Henrik Stenson. Birdied three of his final four holes, nearly holing out for eagle on the par-4 18th hole from 164 yards out, leaving a birdie putt from 21 inches to take the clubhouse lead at 21-under. Fell one short of Stenson, who parred the final hole for the victory. Was hoping to become the 19th player to pick up his maiden PGA TOUR victory at the Wyndham Championship, most recently Si Woo Kim in 2016. His fifth top-10 finish of the season moved him to No. 39 in the FedExCup standings heading into the Playoffs.

RBC Heritage: Finished T3 at the RBC Heritage, finishing at 11-under 273 and two strokes behind winner Wesley Bryan. Entered the day four shots back but briefly climbed into sole possession of the lead with a 5-under 31 on the front nine, but two bogeys to go with seven pars on the back nine led to a 3-under 68.

Genesis Open: With four rounds in the 60s (68-69-69-68), posted a T8 at 10-under and joined Scott Brown (T2) as the only players with four sub-70 rounds at the Genesis Open at Riviera CC.

Farmers Insurance Open: With scores of 69-69-71-71–280 (-8), was one of just three players to post all four sub-par rounds in the Farmers Insurance Open (C.T. Pan, Robert Streb). It marked just his second time in 21 career starts on the PGA TOUR to post four below-par scores in an event (2016 RSM Classic/T6). His 8-under 280 total at Torrey Pines was good for a T9 finish with four others.

2016 Season
Finished the Korn Ferry Tour season with 20 starts, one win, one playoff loss and five top-25 finishes in 12 cuts made. Was 12th in the final priority-ranking order. Locked up his PGA TOUR card for the 2016-17 season with a sixth-place finish on the 2016 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season money list.

Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank: Was just two shots back after the opening round at the Utah Championship with a 5-under 67. Followed up with rounds of 69 and 67 to get within two shots of the 54-hole lead. Played in the second-to-last group on Sunday and birdied two of his first eight holes to move into a share of the lead before playing his final 10 holes in 4-over. Finished T6, moving up to No. 2 on the money list.

Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna: Locked up his PGA TOUR card with a playoff victory at the Air Capital Classic. Started the third round six back and fired a course-record-tying 61 to jump into the lead. Entered the final round with a two-stroke advantage and carded a 67 to get into a playoff with J.J. Spaun and amateur Collin Morikawa. Converted a 20-foot birdie try on the second playoff hole to secure his maiden win on Tour.

Rex Hospital Open: Posted his fourth consecutive top-15 finish at the Rex Hospital Open. Opened with a 1-over 72 but posted rounds of 66-70-68 over the last three rounds for a T6 finish.

United Leasing & Finance Championship: Continued his ascent up the Korn Ferry Tour money list at the United Leasing & Finance Championship, posting his second top-10 of the season with a T7. Tied the tournament record with a back-nine 7-under 29 in which he played the last seven holes in 7-under.

Servientrega Championship Presented by Efecty: Played his way into contention at the Servientrega Championship Presented by Efecty. Was T19 after 36 holes after a 74-68 start. On Saturday, birdied three of his last four holes in blistery conditions to pull within three of the lead. Played his way into the top spot on the leaderboard late on Sunday with a birdie on No.16. Drained a birdie putt on the 18th to take the outright lead. Headed into a playoff with Brad Fritsch after Fritsch birdied the 72nd hole. Finished runner-up when Fritsch made par for the win.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open: Made four cuts in seven starts on the PGA TOUR, with a T38 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open his best outing.

Competed in seven PGA TOUR events, made three cuts and placed inside the top 25 in all three showings.

The Open Championship: Next start came at The Open Championship at St. Andrews. Posted 70-72-70-67 for a T12, the third-lowest amateur in the field. Made his professional debut at the RBC Canadian Open the next week. Played his way into contention with a 66 in the third round. Struggled Sunday, carded a 73 for a T22.

U.S. Open: Teed it up at the U.S. Open contested at Chambers Bay as an amateur, carded 69-73-72-73 for a T42.

- Named ACC Player of the Year both as a junior and senior at Georgia Tech and became the sixth player in conference history to repeat, was also a first-team All-American both years.
- Ascended to No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings in June of 2014 and held that position through the summer and fall.
