David and his brother, Maxwell, and sister, Abigail, are triplets.

Finished No. 1 in the 2025 PGA TOUR University Ranking, following Ludvig Aberg (2023) and Michael Thorbjornsen (2024) as the third player to earn direct access to the PGA TOUR by finishing No. 1 in the PGA TOUR University Ranking.

Played four seasons at University of North Carolina (2021-25), earning seven collegiate victories, including five wins as a senior, and four consecutive All-America honors, highlighted by first-team laurels in 2023 and 2025. Tied the school record for career wins previously established by Dustin Bray (2000-04), and broke school records for single-season wins (five in 2024-25), career scoring average (70.13), and single-season scoring average (68.78 for 2024-25 season).

Winner of the 2025 Fred Haskins Award; he followed John Inman (1984) as the second University of North Carolina player to win the award. Notable amateur victories included the 2022 Southern Amateur at Sea Island Golf Club (Plantation Course), as well as the 2023 Jones Cup Invitational, which earned him an exemption for the 2023 RSM Classic (missed cut) on the PGA TOUR.

Represented the United States at the 2023 Walker Cup, contested at The Old Course at St. Andrews, the 2023 World Amateur Team Championship, and 2023 and 2024 Arnold Palmer Cups. Earned the clinching point for the United States at the 2023 Walker Cup. Helped the United States win the 2023 World Amateur Team Championship alongside fellow Americans Nick Dunlap and Gordon Sargent.

Notable junior victories included the 2020 Junior PLAYERS Championship, 2020 Rolex Tournament of Champions (a premier AJGA event), 2020 AJGA Invitational at Sedgefield, which is contested at Sedgefield Country Club, host of the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship.
