His heritage is Guatemalan. Father played for the Guatemala national basketball team. the leading scorer for the Under-17 boys team.

Was a four-year member of the varsity basketball team at Valley View High School in Ontario, California, and went on to play college basketball at Riverside City College.

Nobody in his family played golf, but traveling to his sister's house, the family would pass a municipal golf course and that piqued his curiosity about the sport.

Best memory as a fan was attending the Farmers Insurance Open in La Jolla, California, for the first time and seeing up close all his heroes.

Enjoys listening to R&B and slow ballads prior to a tournament round. Says it calms him.
