Amateur Highlights
Played four seasons at University of Nevada-Las Vegas (2014-18), where he garnered a 2018 All-America First Team selection and was named the 2018 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year.
In UNLV records dating back to the start of the 1988-89 season, he tied the school record for single-season wins (four in 2017-18) and broke the school record for low 18-hole score (62 at the 2017 Thunderbird Invitational contested at Karsten Golf Course; he finished T2 with Arizona State's Kevin Yu, and finished one stroke behind medalist Collin Morikawa of Cal); he also finished with the second-best career scoring average in program history (71.02), trailing only Ryan Moore, tied for the third-most career wins in school history (five), and posted the third-best single-season scoring average in school history (69.79 in 2017-18), only trailing Ryan Moore's junior and senior seasons.
Member of the victorious 2018 American Arnold Palmer Cup team; he teamed with Collin Morikawa in a fourball match, which they won over Andy Zhang and Luis Gagne.
Ranked as high as ninth in the World Amateur Golf Ranking prior to turning professional in 2018.
Won the 2016 California State Amateur Championship, following his older brother, Shotaro (pronounced SHOH-tar-oh), who won the title in 2015; they became the first pair of brothers to win the event.
