Both his grandparents owned houses in Palm Springs, California, and he grew up going to the golf course with them; he loved running around the fairways as a little kid, until driving the golf cart became his favorite thing to do.

His earliest golf memory is watching Tiger Woods beat Stephen Ames, 9 and 8, at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and having Woods' caddie, Steve Williams, toss him one of the balls from the match. The ball still sits displayed on his desk.

Played three and a half seasons at UCLA (2012-15), winning twice individually.
Made his PGA TOUR debut at the 2015 Farmers Insurance Open as an open qualifier amid his junior season at UCLA; he missed the cut but played the first two rounds with Justin Thomas, a TOUR rookie at the time.
Qualified for the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay prior to the start of his senior season at UCLA.
Reached the Round of 16 at the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club, notably defeating Noah Goodwin in the Round of 64.
