Stepped away from golf following the 2024 PGA TOUR season. Kraft said of the decision, "I wanted to be more present with my family and embrace the next chapter of life. Golf is an amazing game, but to play it at the highest competitive level, it takes a lot from you. I also had other interests -- especially in investing and business -- and I was ready for the next challenge. Golf gave me everything. It remains, and will always remain, a huge part of my life. It gave me lifelong friendships... it gave me the chance to travel the world, play against the best, and grow in ways I never expected."
Grew up playing baseball in Denton, Texas, but got introduced to golf around age 12 by his "best friend and future caddie" Boston Brittain, whose dad owned a local driving range and was a PGA of America professional. Kelly and Boston spent summers "working there and hitting balls for free. We'd be out there all day long."
Kelly and wife Tia wed in April 2013 in St. Simons Island, Georgia. They met at Southern Methodist University, where Tia played on the women's golf team. More specifically, they met in their first compliance meeting for the golf teams. Tia, who prepped at Heritage Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina, played five seasons at SMU (2007-12) and was credited with three varsity letters (2008, 2009, 2010).
Inducted into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025. Other notable inductees include fellow U.S. Amateur Championship winners Colt Knost and Hank Kuehne, 1986 NFL Offensive Player of the Year and four-time NFL rushing yards leader Eric Dickerson, and Pro Bowl running back Craig James.
Travels with his dog, Pearl, a white lab. Got Pearl in 2019, right before his surgery to repair his labrum and hip impingement in his left hip.
Likes drinking tequila and enjoys wearing cashmere sweaters on and off the golf course.
Is a big fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and SMU Mustangs.
Dad, Tim, is an avid sailboat racer.
