Personal

Disqualified himself for a rules violation (signing an incorrect scorecard) after advancing through the first stage of the 2012 PGA TOUR Qualifying School at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. after apparently brushing a leaf in a bunker in the fourth round, assessed himself a one-stroke penalty, when in fact, the penalty should have been two strokes. He played the final two rounds because his caddie was certain the leaf had not moved in the first place. After wrestling with the decision for six days, he called the PGA TOUR and disqualified himself to protect the field. "I continued to pray about it and think about it, and I just did not have any peace about it," Barber told Golfweek. "I knew I needed to do the right thing. I knew it was going to be disqualification." His honesty allowed six other players to advance to the second stage.

Turned professional in June 2012 and forewent his final season of eligibility at Auburn University because he had already earned a bachelor's degree in finance.

Earliest golf memory is watching golf on TV with his dad. He took the children to THE PLAYERS Championship where they would sit on No. 17 and watch the caddies hit and get a ton of autographs.

Very into music and would like to learn how to play the guitar some day.

Amateur Highlights

Began his collegiate career at University of Central Florida (2008-09 season), where he finished T7 at the 2009 NCAA Championships and was named the Conference USA Golfer of the Year and Freshman of the Year, before he transferred to Auburn University for the final three seasons of his collegiate career (2009-12 -- sat out 2009-10 per NCAA transfer rules).

Earned 2012 All-America First Team recognition and 2011 All-America Second Team recognition in the two seasons he played at Auburn; he also earned All-Southeastern Conference First Team selections both seasons.

Set a single-season school record for scoring average as a redshirt junior at Auburn (70.76 in 2011-12), breaking the record of 70.90 established by Buddy Gardner in 1976-77; he also broke the career scoring average record (70.83), which had stood since 2005.

Earned two collegiate victories -- one at UCF, and another at Auburn.

Finished second individually as he led UCF to the team title at the 2009 Conference USA Championship.

Won the 2009 Florida State Amateur Championship at TPC Sawgrass (three rounds were played on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, while he played the first round on the East-West course at Sawgrass Country Club), running away with a 9-stroke victory.

Qualified for match play at both the 2010 and 2011 U.S. Amateur Championships; he defeated Kevin Tway before he fell to Patrick Cantlay in the Round of 32 in 2010 at Chambers Bay, and fell to Stephan Jaeger in the Round of 64 in 2011 at Erin Hills.

Qualified for match play but lost in the first round at the 2010 Western Amateur.

Two-time winner of the Florida State Boys Junior Championship (16-18 Division), winning the 2006 title at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida over Tyson Alexander, and the 2008 title at Interlachen Country Club near Orlando.
