It took him an overtime session before he eventually outlasted China’s Yanwei Liu on the third extra hole, making an 11-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th after Liu missed a 23-foot birdie effort of his own. He closed out the wire-to-wire performance, shooting his worst score of the week—a final-round, even-par 73 to go with his opening 66-67-68. Had a birdie putt on the 72nd hole that would have given him the outright win, but the putt just slid by. This is also the first time a player from Japan has ever been atop the Order of Merit standings.
