Cleveland’s new CBX 2 wedges, designed for the everyday golfer

The wedges that PGA TOUR players use during competition aren’t always the best fit for average golfers. Some players need a bit more forgiveness, and that’s what the player Cleveland has in mind with its new cavity-back CBX 2 wedges.

“The short game is critical to playing your best golf, and playing wedges designed for your game – and the shots you like to hit – is key,” said Brian Schielke, Marketing Director at Cleveland Golf in a press release. “That’s why Cleveland CBX 2 wedges were created. They make the short game easier and more forgiving for the majority of golfers out there playing game-improvement equipment.”

Following up on its original CBX wedges released in 2017, Cleveland’s CBX 2 wedges have a new hollow-cavity design that has what the company calls a “hollow chamber” in the heel section and a weight in the toe section. This construction is designed to boost perimeter weighting and maximize MOI (moment of inertia, a measure of energy transfer).

The toe-biased center of gravity (CG) in the heads combines with a Gelback TPU (thermoplastic urethane) insert that sits in the lower portion of the back cavity to reduce vibration and increase feel; these features are part of Cleveland’s “Feel Balancing Technology.”

To increase spin, Cleveland has implemented its fourth-generation Rotex Face Technology onto the faces of the wedges. They have Tour Zip Grooves and face milling to help increase friction at impact between the club and the golf ball.

Also, the CBX 2 lineup of wedges contains three different sole grinds to help golfers find optimal performance from each wedge. There’s a V-shaped sole (46-52 degrees), S-shaped sole (54 and 56 degrees) and a C-shaped sole (58 and 60 degrees) that are available in both right- and left-handed options.

The Cleveland CBX 2 wedges will be available in North America on Aug. 30, selling for $139.99 each with a steel shaft and $149.99 each with a graphite shaft.
