GREENSBORO, N.C. – Plenty is on the line at this week’s Wyndham Championship, with the top 125 in the FedExCup standings advancing to the Playoffs, as well as the finale of the Wyndham Rewards Top 10 competition and Aon Risk Reward Challenge. Here’s a quick look at each one after Friday’s second round at Sedgefield.

    FedExCup Update

AT STAKE: The 125 spots in the upcoming FedExCup Playoffs. Players who finish outside the top 125 after this week will see their seasons end.

LATEST PROJECTIONS: There wasn’t much movement on Friday with only two players projected to crack the top 125 – Patton Kizzire and Shawn Stefani. … Kizzire came in ranked No. 129 and is now projected 99th after shooting 11 under through two rounds to sit tied for third. … Stefani’s second-straight 66 moved him from No. 134 to 123rd in the projections. … The players currently moving out are Robert Streb, who missed the cut and dropped three spots to No. 127, and Alex Noren, who made the cut on the number with a 67 in the second round, but is projected to fall four spots to No. 129.

HOT 'LANTA: Unlike some of the players trying move into the top 125, Patton Kizzire has his card through the end of the 2020-21 season thanks to his two wins last year. The 6-foot-5 Auburn grad has missed the cut in eight of his last nine tournaments, but has been working hard with his new coach, Justin Parsons. Together, they are trying to improve his posture and develop a more athletic swing. He’s also focused on his putting, and the entire combination seems to be paying dividends this week. His goal is to make the FedExCup Playoffs for the fourth straight season. “It's always there in the back of your mind,” said Kizzire, who shot 64 on Friday. “I am exempt for next season, so that gives me a little bit of comfort, but I certainly want to play next week, I want to play the following week and I want to play in Atlanta. I played in Atlanta last year and that's where I want to be every year is playing the FedExCup finals. So, this is a good start to that and just going to carry the momentum and see if I can play my game.”

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT: Shawn Stefani came to Greensboro in 2016 ranked No. 133 in the FedExCup. He shot a pair of 66s on the weekend, tied for 14th and booked a spot in the Playoffs, making it into the top 125 by two spots. He hasn’t been as successful the last two years, but he’s in good position through 36 holes this week, projected at No. 123. He thinks the experience he’s gained over the last three years can only help. “Honestly I think it's more nerve wracking being on the bubble than it is to try to win a golf tournament, because when you're playing really well, you don't really think about it too much, you know,” Stefani said. “When you're on the bubble, you're just trying to get into that Top 125 to keep your status for next year. Obviously, I'm outside that number now, but I've been playing well the last several months, so my mindset on the weekend's going to be, look, I'm playing some good golf right now, keep going and playing good golf. Don't worry about where you are and what could and could not happen. Focus on what we're doing and see what happens.”

    Wyndham Rewards Top 10

AT STAKE: The top 10 spots in the FedExCup standings and its bonus pool money of $10 million. Brooks Koepka already has wrapped up the top prize of $2 million.

LATEST PROJECTIONS: Only one player is projected to move into the top 10 – former Wake Forest All-American Webb Simpson. Simpson, who was born in Raleigh, N.C., and lives in Charlotte, N.C., started the week No. 13 and is now slotted at No. 10. Simpson shot 67 on Friday and is tied for third at 11 under. … Only eight players have a mathematical shot at the bonus money. … Chez Reavie remains at No. 14 after a 68 on Friday that left him tied for 27th at 7 under. … Charles Howell, who is tied for 12th, has moved from No. 17 to 15 after a second-round 66. … Sungjai Im, who shot 67 and spent much of the day tied for the lead until a late surge by Ben An, has moved from No. 25 to 21 with his tie for third. … Scott Piercy dropped a spot to No. 27 after shooting a 66 to tie for 53rd at 5 under … Hideki Matsuyama’s bid to crack the top 10 ended when he missed the cut. He started the week No. 29 and is now projected at No. 30. … Lucas Glover and Corey Connors each dropped one spot. Glover, who started No. 30, shot 68 and is tied with Piercy. So is Connors, who had a 66 in the second round. Click here to see the projections.

HOLDING STEADY: Paul Casey, who could move as high as fourth in the Wyndham Rewards Top 10 with a win, came in ranked No. 8 and remains in that spot. He shot his second-straight 65 on Friday and is 10 under, three strokes off the lead. “I would love that, that would be good,” Casey said. “Wyndham Rewards would be amazing, and then a bunch of FedExCup points as well. Still a long way behind Brooks, but it would move me up a little bit, which is nice.”

    Aon Risk Reward Challenge

AT STAKE: The $1 million prize for the season-long competition involving the best scores at select holes. The par-5 15th at Sedgefield is the final hole, with Brooks Koepka currently ahead of Jason Day via a tiebreaker.

LATEST PROJECTIONS: Jason Kokrak and Alex Noren are the only two players with any real chance of overtaking Koepka. Both made the cut, but their opportunities are dwindling with just two rounds remaining. … Kokrak, who needs a double eagle and an eagle on the 15th hole to win the Aon Challenge, made birdie there on Friday, his second straight. … Noren, who needs a pair of double eagles, parred the 15th in the second round after making an eagle on Thursday. … The 15th hole has yielded an albatross once during the Wyndham Championship to Fabian Gomez in 2011.
