Jason Day picked up his second wire-to-wire victory of the year, winning THE PLAYERS Championship by four shots over Kevin Chappell for his 10th PGA TOUR title.
Day made one significant change to the bag setup, replacing his TaylorMade Ghost Spider Itsy Bitsy prototype putter with a Spider Limited Red mallet.
The new putter was inspired by Day, who came to TaylorMade last fall with the request for a putter similar to his Ghost Spider Itsy Bitsy prototype that incorporated the color red, which happens to be one of his favorite colors.
Working directly with Day, TaylorMade designers added a dark red to the head that happens to be the same color of the red streak found on the abdomen of the Redback Spider that's indigenous to Day's native Australia.
With the exception of the color change, the putter is identical to the Ghost Spider Itsy Bitsy he used to win seven times in the last 15 months, including the 2015 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
During the first round, Day gained more than three strokes on the field (plus-3.015), his best putting performance of the year. He finished the week eighth in strokes gained: putting (plus-5.799).
