Barron remains in front as Round 2 suspends

ENDICOTT, N.Y. — Monday qualifier Doug Barron had a one-stroke lead in the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open when lightning forced the suspension of play late in the second round Saturday.
Making his second PGA TOUR Champions start after turning 50 last month, Barron was 10 under for the tournament playing the par-4 15th when play was stopped at En-Joie Golf Club.
Barron got into the field Monday with a 66 at The Links at Hiawatha Landing. He's coming off a fifth-place tie in the Senior British Open in his PGA TOUR Champions debut.
Scott McCarron was tied for second after a 66. He won the event two years ago,
Marco Dawson, playing alongside Barron and Miguel Angel Jimenez in the final group, also was 9 under with Scott Parel and David McKenzie. Playing together in the second-to-last group, Parel and McKenzie also were on 15 when play was suspended.
Jimenez was 8 under. He birdied the par-3 14th, hitting a 5-iron to a foot on the 209-yard hole.
Tied with Jimenez for the first-round lead after a 65, Barron made a long eagle putt on the par-5 third hole and added birdies on the next two par-5 holes, the fifth and eighth. Barron bogeyed the par-5 12th.
Barron was winless on the PGA TOUR in 238 starts, playing the PGA TOUR's defunct B.C. Open seven times at En-Joie.
Billy Andrade. Duffy Waldorf and 65-year-old Jay Haas joined Jimenez at 8 under. Waldorf had two holes to play, and Andrade had three left. Haas shot his second straight 68.
Fred Couples was 6 under after a 68. The 1991 B.C. Open winner is back at En-Joie for the first time in 24 years.
Senior British Open winner Bernhard Langer also was 6 under after a 70. He won at En-Joie in 2014.

Second-Round Lead Notes
- Five second-round leaders/co-leaders have gone on to win this event: R.W. Eaks (2007), Eduardo Romero (2008), Bart Bryant (2013) Paul Goydos (2016) and Scott McCarron (2017).
- So far this year, a leader/co-leader heading into the final round has gone on to win nine of 17 tournaments.
- The largest come from behind to win was Miguel Angel Jimenez at the Chubb Classic who trailed by three and was T15 entering the final round.
- The largest comeback at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Open was four by Loren Roberts (2010) and Bernhard Langer (2014). At the B.C. Open, it was eight by Craig Stadler (2003).
Scott McCarron, 69-66—135 (-9)
- McCarron moved 19 spaces up the leaderboard when he carded seven birdies en route to a 6-under 66 to add to his 3-under 69 opening round score. With 15 players left to complete the second round, McCarron currently sits T2, one stroke behind the leader.
- McCarron won the 2017 DICK’S Sporting Goods Open by one stroke over Kevin Sutherland after rounds of 61-64. He holds a 68.36 scoring average in 11 rounds at the event.
- McCarron owns three victories, two runner-up finishes and 10 top-10 finishes this season on PGA TOUR Champions.
- McCarron has held the top position in the Charles Schwab Cup standings for 11 consecutive weeks with $1,991,805 in earnings this season. With a winning purse of $307,500 this week, he is in position to hold the lead for the 12th week and surpass $2 million in earnings for the third consecutive season.
Scott Parel, 66 – Thru 14
- Parel opened with a 6-under 66 on Friday and through 14 holes on Saturday has carded six birdies at 3-under.
- Though 32 holes, Parel owns the most birdies in the field with 13.
- Parel is making his third start at the event. He finished T7 in 2017 and T19 last year. He has never recorded a round over par at En-Joie Golf Club.
- This season, Parel has finished runner-up three times, with two playoff losses. He ranks No. 4 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, $829,654 behind leader McCarron.
- The Augusta, Georgia native owns two victories, eight runner-up finishes and 27 finishes in the top 10 in four seasons on PGA TOUR Champions.
David McKenzie, 67 – Thru 14
- McKenzie carded a 5-under 67 in the opening round, followed by five birdies through 14 holes of play on Saturday. He sits T2 at 9-under, just one-stroke behind the leader.
- McKenzie is making his second start at the event. He finished T55 last year after rounds of 72-75-68.
- McKenzie has made 13 starts this season with his best finish coming in his last start at The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex (T5).
- The Melbourne, Australia native owns three third-place finishes and seven finishes in the top 10 in three years on PGA TOUR Champions.
Marco Dawson, 66 – Thru 14
- After playing his first 28 holes bogey-free, Dawson bogeyed the par-4 No. 11 and was 9-under through 14 holes on Saturday.
- Dawson played in the final group at last year’s DICK’S Sporting Goods Open but went on to finish T3 at 15-under.
- This is his sixth start at the event and owns two top-five finishes: T3 (2018), T4 (2014).
- Dawson’s best finish of the season was runner-up at the Oasis Championship and he is currently No. 17 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.
- Dawson made 10 starts at the B.C. Open at En-Joie Golf Club, marking his best finish in 1995 (T28).
- The Lakeland, Florida resident owns two PGA TOUR Champions titles, both in 2015 at the Cologuard Classic and The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex.
Other Notes
- Making his first start of the season, Davis Love III carded rounds of 68-71 to sit T21*.
- Returning to En-Joie Golf Club for the first time in 24 years, Fred Couples carded rounds of 70-68 to sit T14*. In eight starts this season, it is the fifth time he has entered the final round in the top 15.
- Defending champion Bart Bryant carded rounds of 72-74 to sit T57*.
- Local favorite Joey Sindelar carded rounds of 70-72 to sit T34*.
- New York native and 1984 B.C. Open champion Wayne Levi withdrew prior to the start of the second round due to illness.
