Korn Ferry Tour players have one goal: finishing inside the top 20 on the season-ending Points List to earn a PGA TOUR card. This requires unearthing any possible competitive advantage to record as many high finishes as possible and become TOURBound.

From this week forward, the pros will be armed with all the stats to help them get there – and fans are coming along for the ride.

Korn Ferry Tour TOURCAST, using ShotLink Select powered by CDW, debuts at this week’s LECOM Suncoast Classic. Mirroring the long-standing PGA TOUR product, TOURCAST allows users on PGATOUR.COM and the PGA TOUR mobile app to follow players interactively across Korn Ferry Tour competition in specific shot-by-shot detail. This data will allow for the collection of Strokes Gained statistics long used on the PGA TOUR to shed insights on how players compare against their peers at different facets of the game.

Essentially, it sheds a deeper light into the competitive makeup of golf’s next stars.

How does Korn Ferry Tour TOURCAST work?

Utilizing newly created mobile camera-based technology, ShotLink Select assigns precise GPS coordinates to the exact location of the golf ball, generating accurate, shot-by-shot data collection throughout Korn Ferry Tour events. This data can then be used to display player location, detailed shot information and stroke trails for the TOURCAST presentation.

ShotLink Select, which debuted last fall at the PGA TOUR’s Baycurrent Classic and Hero World Challenge, enables an expanded statistical data set at Korn Ferry Tour events that is derived from stroke and coordinate-based data. The intention is to mimic stats generated at PGA TOUR events, minus radar data. The most notable: Strokes Gained, which measures a player’s performance against a benchmark by calculating the value of every shot based on distance, lie and difficulty, rather than just total putts or score.

This new data collection method allows the PGA TOUR to deploy a lightweight version of ShotLink, enabling the capture of detailed shot-by-shot location data at events where the full ShotLink system cannot be deployed.

    What’s next for TOURCAST?

The potential applications of TOURCAST, using ShotLink Select, are numerous. If you’re looking to follow the cut-line drama late on a Friday afternoon (top 65 and ties), you can see where everyone stands on a given hole at a given time – and sweat out the scenarios along with the pros. If your favorite player needs a flurry of birdies late Sunday afternoon for the chance at a title, you can keep tabs on their shot-by-shot progress without waiting for the individual hole results to come in. You can see who hit the longest drive on a given hole (and where). You can review shot trails from your favorite hole to see how the field navigated the test. And if someone breaks the course record on a given competition day, you can click back through his round to see how he did it.

TOURCAST turns the leaderboard from a static entity into an entertainment vehicle, while adding contextual layers for analysis. Who separates themselves best against fellow pros off the tee? Who needs to sharpen their wedge play from 100 yards and in? Who’s most dialed on mid-range putts? Korn Ferry Tour players – and fans – can now answer these questions better than ever.
