Race for The 10: How things stand as PGA TOUR Americas heads into final third of 2026 season

With only five tournaments remaining this PGA TOUR Americas season, the race to move up to the Korn Ferry Tour has entered its decisive stretch.

When the season ends on Oct. 18, the top 10 players on the final points list will earn promotions to the next level. And the race is far from settled, as all 60 players at the season-ending Dominican Republic Tour Championship presented by Scotiabank will have a chance to move into The 10 with a victory.

Up to this point, the lead belongs to third-year PGA TOUR Americas player Thomas Ponder, who has built a 411-point advantage after recording a top-25 finish in every start (10) this season. His 1,495 points are the highest total ever by the Tour’s points leader through the first 10 events of a season. Davis Lamb, the leader at this point last year, had earned 1,211 points, while the 2024 leader, Frederik Kjettrup, had 1,010 points.

Outside the current top 10, a player to watch over this final stretch is 23-year-old Lance Simpson, a 2026 PGA TOUR University alum. The rookie out of the University of Tennessee, who joined PGA TOUR Americas in late June, has made only four starts and already holds 16th place on the points list while leading the Tour in scoring average (66.88). His last three finishes have been top 10s, with a runner-up at the Commissionaires Ottawa Open presented by Lépine Apartments as his best performance.

History suggests no lead is safe – just look at last year’s final sprint by eventual PGA TOUR Americas Player of the Year Michael Brennan. The Wake Forest alum was fifth on the points list through 10 events, then won three of the next four events (the 11th, 13th and 14th tournaments of the season) to break away from the rest of the pack. Johnny Keefer, the No. 1 player in 2024, didn’t reach the top of the points list until his win at the Manitoba Open, the 14th event of the inaugural season.

With the season set to resume with the Manitoba Open (Aug. 20-23) in Winnipeg, Canada, the following is a look at the players inside the top 10 heading into the critical final third of the season.

1. Thomas Ponder, United States

• ·The 25-year-old University of Alabama alum holds a significant 411-point lead thanks to five top-five finishes, including a win at the Explore NB Open. His worst finish was a T18 at the season-opening ECP Brazil Open. He leads the Tour in rounds in the 60s (34), sub-par rounds (37) and total birdies (210).
• Points earned: 1,495 (10 starts)

• Last season’s rank: Finished 35th with 423 points (16 starts)

• Scoring average: 67.23 (second on Tour)

• Best finishes: Won the Explore NB Open (Week 8); solo third at the Kia Open de Ecuador (Week 4) and Commissionaires Ottawa Open (Week 9); tied for third at the Osprey Valley Open (Week 10); fourth at the Mexico Championship (Week 5)

2. Corey Pereira, United States

• Few players have gathered points as quickly as he did during the middle portion of the season. He piled up 850 points over three consecutive tournaments, including a win in Mexico and a playoff loss in Wichita. His story is one of resilience, as he came back from the heartbreaking loss of his wife to cancer in June of last year.
• Points earned: 1,084 (10 starts)

• Last season’s rank: Played only one PGA TOUR-sanctioned event; earned membership via PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry (First Stage medalist)
• Scoring average: 67.97 (fifth on Tour)

• Best finishes: Won the Mexico Championship (Week 5); lost a playoff at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open (Week 7); tied for fifth at the Inter Rapidisimo Golf Championship (Week 6)

3. Patrick Flavin, United States

• He had the strongest start to the season, with a win in Cordoba and a runner-up finish in Peru, where he lost a playoff. Those two weeks in South America continue to carry his season as he searches for another top finish down the stretch.
• Points earned: 997 (10 starts)
• Last season’s rank: Finished 51st with 307 points (15 starts)

• Scoring average: 68.53 (15th on Tour)

• Best finishes: Won the Abierto del Centro Zurich (Week 2); lost a playoff at the Diners Club Peru Open (Week 3)

4. Jack Lundin, United States

• He has come excruciatingly close to winning twice this season, with playoff losses at the Kia Open de Ecuador and the Osprey Valley Open. Dating back to last season, he owns a 14-event streak of made cuts and is one of only three players who have made all 10 cuts this year.
• Points earned: 873 (10 starts)

• Last season’s rank: 41st with 372 points (16 starts)
• Scoring average: 68.58 (T16 on Tour)

• Best finishes: Runner-up at the Kia Open de Ecuador (Week 4) and the Osprey Valley Open (Week 10); solo fourth at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open (Week 7)

5. Étienne Papineau, Canada

• No one inside the top 10 has taken a more dramatic path than Papineau. He opened the season with five consecutive missed cuts but turned things around with a T2 in Colombia, the last event before the first reshuffle. He has not missed a cut since and, in his last start, earned a playoff win at the Osprey Valley Open to become the second Canadian champion this season.
• Points earned: 786 (10 starts)

• Last season’s rank: Finished 121st on the Korn Ferry Tour (25 starts)

• Scoring average: 69.33 (T53 on Tour)

• Best finishes: Won the Osprey Valley Open (Week 10); tied for second at the Inter Rapidísimo Golf Championship (Week 6)

6. Drew Doyle, United States

• As the only player with four rounds in the 60s at Club El Rincón de Cajicá, he claimed his first Tour win in Colombia to break into the top 10. His streak of nine consecutive made cuts was snapped at the Osprey Valley Open.
• Points earned: 673 (9 starts)

• Last season’s rank: Finished 52nd with 292 points (nine starts)

• Scoring average: 69.35 (T56 on Tour)

• Best finishes: Won the Inter Rapidisimo Golf Championship (Week 6); tied for sixth at the Abierto del Centro Zurich

7. Joey Savoie, Canada

• The 31-year-old from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, broke through with a playoff win in Ecuador to move into second on the points list through four events. Since then, however, he has earned only 41.83 points, adding some pressure to the season’s final five events.
• Points earned: 672 (eight starts)

• Last season’s rank: Finished 77th with 189 points (16 starts)

• Scoring average: 68.21 (eighth on Tour)

• Best finishes: Won the Kia Open de Ecuador (Week 4); tied for eighth at the ECP Brazil Open (Week 1)

8. Patrick Sheehan, United States

• ·Yet to win, the 25-year-old Penn State alum has quietly pieced together one of the most consistent seasons on Tour. He has four top-10 finishes spread across the season, with his best result a runner-up in Cordoba, Argentina, where Patrick Flavin edged him by two shots.
• Points earned: 653 (10 starts)

• Last season’s rank: Finished 100th with 102 points (10 starts)

• Scoring average: 68.58 (T16 on Tour)

• Best finishes: Runner-up at the Abierto del Centro Zurich (Week 2); tied for fifth at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open (Week 7)

9. Dawson Armstrong, United States

• He went from Monday qualifier at the season-opening event in Brazil to tournament winner by the seventh event. His playoff win in Wichita was a major step, but he will need another strong finish to secure his return to the Korn Ferry Tour, where he has made 126 career starts.
• Points earned: 631 (10 starts)

• Last season’s rank: Finished 151st on the Korn Ferry Tour (16 starts)

• Scoring average: 69.31 (T51 on Tour)

• Best finishes: Won the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open (Week 7); tied for fifth at Diners Club Peru Open (Week 3)

10. Riley Lewis, United States

• The 24-year-old from California rounds out the top 10 thanks to a steady season. A runner-up finish in Mexico, highlighted by a third-round hole-in-one, provided a significant boost in the standings.
• Points earned: 572 (10 starts)
• Last season’s rank: Finished 18th with 676 points (15 starts)

• Scoring average: 68.43 (13th on Tour)

• Best finishes: Runner-up at the Mexico Championship (Week 5); tied for eighth at the ECP Brazil Open (Week 1)

With just a handful of events remaining, only Ponder has created meaningful separation atop the standings. Behind him, however, the margin between securing a Korn Ferry Tour card and finishing outside The 10 remains remarkably thin, setting the stage for a memorable closing stretch.
