Scott Stevens (Chattanooga, Tennessee) fired an 11-under 59 to set a new course record at TPC Toronto (Heathlands), taking a three-shot lead after the first round at the Osprey Valley Open in Caledon, Ontario. The 29-year-old Tennessee native carded two eagles and eight birdies against a lone bogey to post the lowest score in a TOUR-sanctioned competition this year.
“I mean it was an unbelievable day,” said Stevens. “I’m finally starting to feel a little more comfortable. I’ve just put so much pressure on myself and just wanted to play well so bad. That’s the last thing you can do in golf is try to force it. So I think I’ve done a better job of, you know, keeping every shot its own and just hitting it.”
Stevens got off to a strong start with an eagle on the par-5 10th hole, following it up with a birdie on the par-4 11th. After his lone bogey of the day on No. 12, Stevens played the remainder of his first nine 5-under with three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 16th hole. He kept the momentum going on his second nine, playing bogey free with four birdies, just missing a putt for eagle on the ninth hole, to tap in for a career-low 59.
His first-round 59 marks Stevens' lowest career round and his best score since opening the 2025 Osprey Valley Open with a 7-under 64 en route to a T14 finish. Stevens becomes just the fifth player in PGA TOUR Americas history to record a round of 59 and the first since A.J. Ewart at Uplands Golf Club in the 2025 Digital Commerce Group Open.
Adding to the memorable day, Stevens' girlfriend, Olivia Tidwell, is on the bag this week after flying in to surprise him ahead of the tournament.
“I don't know if she knew what I was shooting or not, which was great because it kept me relaxed,” said Stevens. “We were talking about anything but golf. What a blessing it was to shoot 59 with her on the bag. I guess she has to work the next few days, too.”
Piercen Hunt (Calgary, Alberta) and PGA TOUR Americas points leader Thomas Ponder (Dothan, Alabama) sit in a tie for second at 8-under 62, while Cohen Trolio (St. Simons Island, Georgia) and Paul Chang (Tianjin, People’s Republic of China) are one shot back in a tie for fourth at 7-under 63.
