His freshman year at Boyd High School in McKinney, Texas, he needed to par the last hole to qualify for the team. Due to darkness, he had to come back and play the hole the following day. He made par, qualified, and quit basketball and baseball to focus on golf.
Has a twin brother.
Is a Dallas Stars fanatic.
On-course superstition is keeping two tees in his pocket.
Amateur Highlights
Played collegiately at NCAA Division II Midwestern State University for four seasons (2011-15), winning nine individual titles and sharing medalist honors at two others, highlighted by a four-win junior season in 2013-14 which saw him win the NCAA Division II West/South Central Super Region and the first of two consecutive Lone Star Conference individual titles.
2014 All-America First Team selection, 2015 All-America Honorable Mention, and two-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year (2014, 2015).
