Tom Lewis wasn’t even supposed to be in Evansville for the Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing and Finance. He’s played this season on the European Tour and didn’t plan on playing any of the Finals events, but after two subpar showings in the Czech Republic and Sweden, he decided to come across the pond and tee it up in the Korn Ferry Tour season finale.
The decision paid off.
The Englishman was dominant in his first-career Korn Ferry Tour start, winning by five strokes over Fabián Gómez, closing with a final-round 65 to post a four-round total of 23-under at Victoria National Golf Club. Kramer Hickok finished in third at 16-under while the next closest competitors finished at 13-under, a distant 10 shots behind Lewis.
“I’ve really enjoyed my week,” Lewis said. “To be able to play as well as I did just made it extra special.”
The 28-year-old is ranked No. 85 in the Official World Golf Ranking and got into the Finals in the FedExCup 126-200 non-member category by virtue of his T11 finish at The Open Championship earlier this summer.
With the win, Lewis locks up a PGA TOUR card for the 2019-2020 season and will have to decide how to manage his schedule now as he has status on both the European Tour and the PGA TOUR.
Here’s what was in Lewis’ bag for his victory in Evansville:
