FRANKLIN, Tenn. – With a four-stroke victory Sunday at the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation, Alvaro Ortiz earned his second Korn Ferry Tour title and rose to No. 5 on the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour Points List, becoming the fifth player this year declared TourBound and assured of PGA Tour membership for the 2027 season.
Ortiz, who defeated Ross Steelman in a playoff at the UNC Health Championship for his first Korn Ferry Tour title earlier this year, followed Steelman, Doc Redman, Ian Holt and Alistair Docherty as the fifth player declared TourBound. Ortiz entered the week at No. 20 on the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour Points List and closed in 7-under 63 at Vanderbilt Legends Club, totaling 26-under 254 for the tournament to tie the fourth-lowest 72-hole score in Korn Ferry Tour history.
A native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Ortiz will officially receive his first PGA Tour card at the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by Virginia’s Richmond Region, scheduled for Oct. 8-11 at The Federal Club in Glen Allen, Virginia.
Ortiz previously finished No. 26 on the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour Points List, his first top-50 finish in what was his third season on Tour (No. 57 in 2024 and No. 133 as a rookie in 2022). Ortiz earned Korn Ferry Tour membership with a No. 4 finish on the 2020-21 PGA Tour Latinoamérica Order of Merit, a feat he accomplished off the strength of a win at the 61st Abierto Mexicano de Golf – which has since become the VidantaWorld Mexico Open on the PGA Tour.
Prior to turning professional, Ortiz won the 2019 Latin America Amateur Championship and played four seasons at the University of Arkansas (2014-18), where he earned two individual victories and an All-Southeastern Conference Second Team honor.
Ortiz made his PGA Tour debut at the 2019 Masters Tournament and has four made cuts in 12 career starts on Tour, with his highest finish being T13 at the 2024 VidantaWorld Mexico Open.
The 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season continues in Columbus, Ohio, at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship (Sept. 17-20), the second of four season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Finals events.
