Springfield, Mo. — Grant Hirschman tallied six birdies over his final eight holes on Saturday to claim the 54-hole lead at the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper. Harry Higgs and Jonathan Randolph sit in a tie for second at 17-under 199.

Hirschman began his third round with pars on each of his first three holes and recorded his lone birdie on the front nine on the par-3 fourth. He closed his opening nine with five pars to make the turn at 14-under for the week.

On the par-4 10th, Hirschman made a double bogey from the fairway to fall back to 12-under. Despite the setback, the 24-year-old carded six birdies over his final eight holes to earn the lead heading into Sunday’s final round.

“I had a really rough 10th hole. I had 90 yards in, and I made just a terrible double,” Hirschman said. “I shook it off quick and got hot with the putter after that. No. 10 was rough, but I recovered nicely. I felt the momentum building and the hole just started to look bigger.”

Hirschman is ranked 131st in The 25 and has two top-25 finishes so far this season. After making just two cuts in his last five starts, he has taken a new mental approach to his game this week.

“I’m not really going to look at the points and see what a certain finish does,” he said. “I’m just going to have fun and see where it takes me. I always just want to try and have a chance and I haven’t really had a chance this season heading into a final round. All you can ask for is a good chance.”

Harry Higgs, who began the day four strokes off the lead, played himself back into contention with a 7-under 65 that featured nine birdies.

Higgs began his round with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 and added another on the par-4 fifth. Despite a bogey on the par-3 sixth, he rebounded with a birdie on No. 8 to reach 13-under for the week.

The 27-year-old tallied birdies on Nos. 10, 11, and 13 to reach 16-under for the week. After a par on the par-4 14th, Higgs rallied with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16. A bogey on the par-4 17th moved him back to 17-under, one shot off the lead.

“This is the third week in a row I’ve played, and I’ve been playing well,” Higgs noted. “I’m kind of trying to just stay out of my own way and keep doing what I’ve been doing. Days like today are nice when it adds up to 65.”

Last year, Higgs won the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Order of Merit in a season that featured a win and seven top-10s. The Southern Methodist University product will draw on his success last year heading into tomorrow’s final round.

“I had good results throughout the year last year and had a really good finish,” Higgs recalled. “Honestly, it’s just carried over into this year. I’ll be thinking about last year and my finishes towards the end of last year all day tomorrow.”

Tied with Higgs at 17-under is Jonathan Randolph.

Randolph began his round with a birdie on the par-5 first and kept his foot on the pedal with birdies on Nos. 6 and 7. A day after making an albatross on No. 8, the veteran took advantage of the par-5 once again. Randolph hit his second shot from 246 yards to 23-feet and drained his eagle putt to reach 19-under for the week.

“I’m looking to see if there’s any property for sale on No. 8,” Randolph joked. “That hybrid has been a good club this week and we had another good number today.”

Despite making the turn at 5-under on the day, Randolph struggled on his back nine. The 30-year-old carded two bogeys and seven pars to finish the third round at 17-under for the tournament.

“You’re going to take it on the chin every now and then and not be able to score like you want to,” Randolph said. “Thank goodness we have 18 more chances at this place.”

Randolph is making his 79th start on the Korn Ferry Tour this week. The veteran has five runner-up finishes in his Korn Ferry Tour career, but he’s still searching for that elusive victory.

“Second place is good, and third place is good, but I’m ready to win, he said. “I’m really at the point where I want to prove to myself that I can win at this level.”

Andrew Svoboda, who won the 2013 Price Cutter Charity Championship, is alone in fourth place at 16-under 200.
