RALEIGH, N.C. – Chris Baker followed his record-setting second-round 60 with a 3-under 68 on Saturday at the REX Hospital Open. For the first time in his Web.com Tour career, Baker holds the 54-hole lead and will take a four-stroke advantage into Sunday’s final round.

Baker began his round in calming fashion with pars on his first three holes. He recorded his first birdie of the day on the par-5 fourth and added birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 to make the turn at 18-under for the week. The Web.com Tour veteran continued his consistent play converting pars on his final 10 holes of the day.

“It was a solid day, it felt like a lot more than 68 after yesterday,” said Baker, who hasn’t made a bogey since Thursday. “I played great, I hit a lot of greens. I didn’t get anything crazy to fall, but it was a great day. Going into tomorrow, it’s going to be an exciting finish, so overall I’m happy.”

Earlier this season, Baker held the second-round lead at the Country Club de Bogotá Championship and found himself T2 heading into the final round. The Seymour, Indiana native struggled during the final round in Colombia, and posted an 80 on Sunday to finish T51. Despite the disappointment, Baker took the experience as a learning opportunity.

“Bogotá was tough. It wasn’t how I wanted to finish but I didn’t beat myself up that day,” Baker said. “There’s always another tournament and another round of golf. I think the more you can keep upbeat and positive about things, the more it’ll help you in the long run.”

Baker has made 10 cuts in 13 starts this season on the Web.com Tour. The 33-year-old currently ranks 28th in The 25 with 364 points. With a victory on Sunday, Baker would surpass the 830-point total estimated to secure players a PGA TOUR card.

“We all know what tomorrow is,” he said. “I get a chance to win my first event on the Web.com Tour and lock up a PGA TOUR card. That gives me chills, but it’ll be a cool day tomorrow. I just have to keep doing the same things and hitting smart shots, and just believe it’ll work out.”

Zack Sucher, Horacio León, Sebastian Cappelen and Luke Guthrie all sit four strokes off the lead heading into Sunday.

León, a 29-year-old Web.com Tour rookie, fired his second 65 of the week on Saturday. The Southeastern Louisiana University alum is making just his sixth start of the season this week, and currently ranks 140th in The 25. His best result of 2019 came after a T14 at the Nashville Golf Open Benefitting the Snedeker Foundation.

Cappelen, who began the day in the final group, carded three birdies against one bogey to post a three-day total of 14-under 199. The 29-year-old has had an up-and-down season this year making five cuts in 12 starts with three top-25 finishes.

Luke Guthrie followed his second-round 62 with a 3-under 68 on Saturday. The former PGA TOUR member has made the cut in his last five starts and has recorded two top-10s in the past three weeks.

Rounding out the group at 14-under is Zack Sucher, who used a bogey-free 9-under 62 to move back into contention on Saturday. He began the day 10 shots off the lead in a tie for 33rd and used birdies on four of his first six holes to climb the leaderboard. The 32-year-old added five birdies over his final nine holes to earn a share of second place. The Atlanta, Georgia native, hit 17 of 18 greens en route to the low round of the day, and his low round of the season.

Final-round tee times will begin at approximately 7:25 a.m. with groups teeing off No. 1.
