Josh Anderson (Scottsdale, Arizona) tallied eight birdies and an eagle at Crestview Country Club en route to an 8-under 62 and a one-stroke lead at the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open presented by Syndeo.
First-round play in Wichita, Kansas, was plagued by over six hours of weather delays, and only half of the 156-player field finished their rounds when weather halted play for the third and final time Thursday evening.
Cooper Schultz, a 24-year-old from Wichita playing in his hometown event for the second time, carded a bogey-free 63 and is solo second at 7 under. In four seasons at Kansas State (2021-25), Schultz tallied 11 top 10s and finished with the program’s second-best career scoring average (71.99).
Of the 14 players from the PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 making their professional debuts this week, Arizona’s Zach Pollo (Rocklin, California) and Florida Southern’s Max Barile (Tampa, Florida) are in the clubhouse after rounds of 3-under 69.
