PGA TOUR Americas rolls on this week to Ecuador for the KIA Open. A long-standing staple of the former PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, the KIA Open is one of the marquee events in the Latin America Swing of the schedule. Taking place at Quito Tenis y Golf Club in Quito, Ecuador, the KIA Open offers 500 Fortinet Cup Points to the winner along with a $225,500 purse. The field this year features 142 players from 19 different countries. Read on to learn everything you need to know ahead of this week's event.
Players to watch
- Stuart Macdonald (Canada) – Captured his second career victory last week and became the first Canadian to win the Diners Club Peru Open since it became a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event in 2012
- Toni Hakula (Finland) – Champion of the 2023 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica KIA Open
- Matthew Anderson (Canada) – Enters the week No. 1 in the Fortinet Cup standings with his most recent success being a victory at the 69th ECP Brazil Open; finished T18 at the Diners Club Peru Open
- Julián Etulain (Argentina) – Ranked No. 8 in the Fortinet Cup standings; finished runner-up at the 2023 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica KIA Open and has recorded two top-three finishes this season
- Juan Moncayo (Ecuador) – Gained entry into this week’s field via sponsor exemption; an Ecuador-native who finished T37 at the 2023 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica KIA Open
- Samuel Anderson (United States) - Enters the week with two consecutive top-10 finishes (69th ECP Brazil Open/T6, Diners Club Peru Open/2nd); has made the cut in both career appearances at the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica KIA Open, and finished T29 in 2023
- Conner Godsey (United States) – Champion of the 2020 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica KIA Open; finished in the top three at the last two events (69th ECP Brazil Open/T2, Diners Club Peru Open/T3)
- Felipe Garcés (Ecuador) - Earned an invitation to this year’s KIA Open after becoming the first Ecuadorian player to win the South American Amateur Championship
- Clay Feagler (United States) – Won the season-opening Bupa Championship at Tulum and is No. 4 in the Fortinet Cup standings; has made the cut in each start this season
Tournament History
Quito Tenis y Golf Club hosted the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica KIA Open nine times from 2014-20 and then from 2022-23. This week’s field includes three players who won the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica event Toni Hakula (2023), Conner Godsey (2020) and Ricardo Celia (2015). In addition to Hakula, six other players in the field finished in the top 10 at last year’s KIA Open (Julián Etulain (2nd), Rafael Becker (T3), Brent Ito (T3), Jorge Villar (T6), Carlos Bustos (T9) and Rafael Echenique (T9)).
Fortinet Cup Overview
The KIA Open is the fifth of six events in the Latin America Swing, and the 143-player field features three tournament winners of the season and 51 of the top 60 players in the Fortinet Cup.
After the season’s sixth event (Inter Rapidisimo Golf Championship, May 16-19), the top 60 players in the Fortinet Cup will be exempt into the 10-event North America Swing, which begins June 20-23 with The Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist.
PGA TOUR Americas 2024 season summary
Up to 15 Korn Ferry Tour cards are on the line during the 2024 PGA TOUR Americas season – five conditional memberships will go to the top players from the Latin America (two) and North America (three) Swings, and the top 10 players in the season-long Fortinet Cup points list will earn exempt membership.
