How it works: PGA TOUR University
Introduced in 2020, PGA TOUR University identifies the best players in collegiate golf and provides membership opportunities on PGA TOUR-affiliated tours. Upon the conclusion of the collegiate golf season, the top 25 players in the PGA TOUR University Ranking earn membership on the PGA TOUR (No. 1), Korn Ferry Tour (Nos. 2-10) or PGA TOUR Americas (Nos. 11-25), as well as exemptions into PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.
In the first five years of PGA TOUR University, 104 players from 47 schools have earned performance benefits, and No. 1 players include Florida State’s John Pak (2021), Texas’ Pierceson Coody (2022), Texas Tech’s Ludvig Åberg (2023), Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen (2024) and North Carolina’s David Ford (2025).
"The PGA TOUR U team has done a tremendous job of giving us benefits and opportunities," said Åberg, who competed in the 2023 Ryder Cup after finishing atop that year's PGA TOUR University Ranking. "If someone told me two or three years ago that I would have status right out of college, I would be over the moon."
PGA TOUR University Ranking
In partnership with the World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR®), PGA TOUR University ranks players based on the last two years of their collegiate careers. Eligible Tournaments include NCAA Division-I men’s team competitions, official PGA TOUR tournaments and select DP World Tour events.
Players competing in Eligible Tournaments earn points equivalent to the number of points awarded by WAGR®, except for the NCAA D-I Men’s National Championship and professional Eligible Tournaments (as described in the Rules and Regulations).
A player’s “Points Average” is the average number of points he receives at each Eligible Tournament on his PGA TOUR University record, multiplied by 100. Each tournament is weighed equally (i.e., players’ Divisors are not aged on a sliding scale).
During the college golf season, the PGA TOUR University Ranking is updated weekly on Wednesdays. A player’s detailed record can be displayed by clicking his name on the Ranking page.
PGA TOUR University benefits
After the NCAA D-I Men’s National Championship, the top 25 players in the final PGA TOUR University Ranking earn membership on the PGA TOUR (No. 1), Korn Ferry Tour (Nos. 2-10) or PGA TOUR Americas (Nos. 11-25).
- The No. 1 player will earn PGA TOUR membership for the remainder of the current season, as well as the following season.
- Players finishing Nos. 2-5 earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for the remainder of the current season, and they are exempt into Final Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.
- Players finishing Nos. 6-10 earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for the remainder of the current season, and they are exempt into Second Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.
- Players finishing Nos. 11-25 earn PGA TOUR Americas membership for the remainder of the season, and they are exempt into Second Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. Additionally, an NCAA Division-II player in his third of fourth year of NCAA athletic eligibility (junior or senior) who wins the Division-II Jack Nicklaus Award (National Player of the Year) will be eligible to earn the same benefits as players who finish 11th-25th in the PGA TOUR University Ranking.
PGA TOUR University Accelerated
While the PGA TOUR University Ranking features seniors, high-achieving freshmen, sophomores and juniors can earn PGA TOUR membership through PGA TOUR University Accelerated.
Players earn points based on their accomplishments in college, amateur and professional golf, and they will earn PGA TOUR membership if they amass at least 20 points by the end of their third year of NCAA eligibility.
