With both the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour in action again this week, plenty of Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada alumni are teeing it up this week. Here's a look around the world of golf as former members are in the news and in fields at Pebble Beach and Colombia this week.
IN THE NEWS
Silverman featured on Inside the PGA TOUR: It's been quite a year for Ben Silverman, who in the past 12 months won his first Web.com Tour title, earned a PGA TOUR card, earned two top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR and captained Team Mackenzie Tour to victory at the Aruba Cup, all while he and his wife Morgan welcomed their son Jack last summer. His experience was the subject of a recent episode of Inside the PGA TOUR.
Hoey makes 2018 debut: 2017 Freedom 55 Financial Championship winner Rico Hoey makes his Web.com Tour debut this week after drawing into the field at the Colombia Championship. The former University of Southern California standout used a dramatic victory in London to make a last second move into The Five and earn status for the coming season.
Renfrew joins CJGA as Tournament Director: Longtime Mackenzie Tour member and 2012 Syncrude Boreal Open presented by AECON champion Cory Renfrew has dialed back his playing schedule, but he's remaining involved with the game at other levels, too. In addition to coaching with his alma mater and the UBC Men's Golf Team, Renfrew has joined with the Canadian Junior Golf Association as its British Columbia Tournament Director.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: NICK TAYLOR
Each week, we'll profile a Mackenzie Tour alum who's trending upwards at the game's next level. This week, it's 2013 alum and PGA TOUR winner Nick Taylor.Nick Taylor has steadily proven himself to be a contender in each of his four PGA TOUR seasons (Jared C. Tilton/Getty Images)
It didn't take long for Nick Taylor to burst onto the scene as a PGA TOUR rookie, winning the 2014 Sanderson Farms Championship just a few weeks after earning his card through the Web.com Tour Finals. Since then, he's continued to prove he belongs, and in the midst of his fourth season, a second win could be around the corner.
Taylor recorded a career-high four top-10s and eight top-25s last season and ranks 51st in FedExCup points heading into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he finished T10 last year.
The former World Amateur No. 1 won the Ben Hogan Award at the University of Washington and parlayed a successful season on the Mackenzie Tour in 2013 into Web.com Tour status the following year.
