HAMILTON, Ontario – PGA TOUR Americas members Matthew Anderson and Stuart Macdonald have each earned sponsor exemptions into next week’s RBC Canadian Open, the tournament announced Wednesday afternoon. This will mark Anderson’s second time playing the event and Macdonald’s third straight appearance. Anderson and Macdonald are both inside the top 5 of the Fortinet Cup on PGA TOUR Americas, as each player closed the Latin America Swing in the No. 1 and No. 4 position, respectively. The RBC Canadian Open will take place at Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (May 30-June 2).

Anderson played Hamilton Golf & Country Club five years ago when he qualified for the 2019 RBC Canadian Open as an amateur via winning the final regional qualifier. Prior to his PGA TOUR debut at Hamilton Golf & Country Club, the Mississauga native attended the event when he was growing up.

“I remember at Hamilton [Golf & Country Club], the previous time they had it, I was about 11 or 12, and I was following guys, getting autographs, signing gloves – just like the kids are doing out here. So, I was one of those kids,” Anderson said last week at the Inter Rapidisimo Golf Championship in Colombia, the final event of the PGA TOUR Americas Latin America Swing. “That was my first memory of viewing professional golf and seeing professional golfers. I can look back and kind of say I am on the other side of it now. The RBC Canadian Open means a lot to me, for sure, as a Canadian.”

Anderson speaks of the RBC Canadian Open in the highest fashion, as he shared that the tournament was what inspired him to chase his goal of playing on the PGA TOUR. He started playing golf when he was 2 years old and credits his father for introducing him to the game. From hitting golf balls in his grandmother's living room to making his second PGA TOUR appearance next week, Anderson is on track to achieving his dream and he’s already taken an important step forward this season. As the No. 1 player in the Fortinet Cup after the Latin America Swing, he has secured conditional membership on the Korn Ferry Tour for the 2025 season.

Vancouver-native Macdonald will play in his fourth career PGA TOUR event next week in Hamilton. He made an appearance at the Mexico Open at Vidanta earlier this year where he ended the week tied for 24th, which marked his best finish on the PGA TOUR. At the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, he made his first cut on TOUR and finished tied for 57th.

The 29-year-old turned professional in 2017 and has since then played in 136 PGA TOUR-sanctioned events highlighted by two wins: the 2023 Commissionaires Ottawa Open on PGA TOUR Canada and the 2024 Diners Club Peru Open on PGA TOUR Americas. With his win this year, Macdonald became the first Canadian to win the Diners Club Peru Open since it became a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event in 2012.

Anderson and Macdonald will continue to compete in the season-long race for the Fortinet Cup on PGA TOUR Americas, as the North America Swing begins next month at The Beachlands Victoria Open presented by Times Colonist (June 20-23). The top 10 players at the end of the season will earn fully exempt status on the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour.
