PGA TOUR Diversity Internship Program
office At PGA TOUR Headquarters, interns have an opportunity to work together and make a real impact in the organization.
The PGA TOUR Diversity Internship Program is open to all qualified college students, regardless of ethnicity and is committed to attaining greater diversity within our organization, as well as, the golf industry. Our internships are designed to expose college students to the business side of golf that supports one of the world’s leading sports brands -- the PGA TOUR. While a love of the game is certainly appreciated, knowing how to play is not a prerequisite for the internship. Your 9-12 week internship experience will be enhanced by activities and projects that will allow you to gain a full picture of how the PGA TOUR and other golf organizations work together to support our players, charities and events on the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour and the Nationwide Tour.

Some of the benefits of the PGA TOUR Weekly Employee Golf Tournaments are a great way to not only take advantage of playing on a premier course, but also a great chance to network and get to know people who may not work in your department.
Some of the benefits of the PGA TOUR internship include:
  • Competitive wages
  • Subsidized housing in some locations
  • Networking with staff
  • Up to $500 for travel expenses to Orientation in Florida, or to initial worksite
  • Access to TPC Sawgrass
  • Discounts on golf club merchandise and golf privileges

MARKETING
office
Monica Lee
Marketing & Business Analyst Intern, PGATOUR.com, 2007
University of Notre Dame
MBA Candidate 2008

Making the transition from Finance to Marketing meant finding an internship with a high level of involvement and significant responsibility in order to get me started in my new career. The PGA TOUR helped me obtain these goals by providing one on one access to executives and a complex, multi-dimensional project where I worked with cross-functional teams and conducted market research to help the General Manager of PGATOUR.com create a business plan and pitch book. Equally rewarding is the personal development that interns go through as we live and work together and share an intense experience immersed in the TOUR.

Corporate Marketing & Business Development Intern, PGA TOUR 2007
University of Notre Dame
Major: Political Science & Economics

Working for the PGA TOUR has greatly increased my understanding of how the professional sports industry -- and especially golf industry -- operates. I was able to learn from some great people in the marketing and business development departments who are all very good at what they do. I also learned that I would love to continue to work in golf, which is something I’m passionate about. My experience with fellow interns has been phenomenal. It has been very fun to be both living and working among other interns. Since all the interns work in different areas, I have been able to gain a broad perspective of the scope of the TOUR, all its departments and functions, and know how it all comes together. The interns also serve as a great networking platform. From a social standpoint, there is always something going on, whether it’s golf outings, bowling, the beach, or road trips. I have made many friends who I know I will stay in touch with in the future.

Human Resources
office
Lara Aleman
Human Resources Intern, PGA TOUR 2007
University of Pennsylvania
Major: Marketing & Real Estate Investment

Before joining the TOUR’s internship program I had no prior background in human resources. However, I am glad I took the opportunity to explore a new area because the experience will be useful where ever my future takes me. As an intern, I was able to design parts of a manager training program and to facilitate strategy meetings with different TOUR departments, including Championship Management and Nationwide Tour. My biggest accomplishment was working with Golf Course Properties to create and coordinate a two day long team meeting. I have also enjoyed taking golf classes with some of my fellow interns. My advice for future interns is to take advantage of the summer and to get to know the other interns fast; you will immediately have friends to join you at the beach and on the golf course.

Public Relations
office
Ashley Holwell
Public Relations Intern, PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties 2007
Georgia Southern University
Major: Public Relations, Minor: Marketing

I feel as though I have worked with some of the greatest people in the world. These good people have done a phenomenal job in exposing me to the different entities of the PGA TOUR. I have worked very closely with the TOUR’s national charity, America Supports You, and TPC Sawgrass’ local charity, the HEAL Foundation. I have also served on HEAL’s inaugural Valley of Dreams Gala committee where I coordinated with PGA TOUR Productions to create a video that was shown at the gala. The other great thing about this internship experience is that it doesn’t stop at the end of the work day when we leave TOUR headquarters. I am living on UNF’s campus with approximately 20 other interns and in these past weeks, I have created lasting friendships and opened myself up to a more diverse group of people. Your internship experience is what you make of it - what you put in it is what you will get out it. If you do nothing else, have fun!

NEW MEDIA
office
Chris Pan
New Media Intern, PGA TOUR 2007
University of Texas, Austin
Major: Accounting

Marketing strategies now go beyond basic television and print, and New Media is at the forefront of developing and finding new ways to reach golf industry consumers. I've learned a lot about segmenting different markets and how to target specific customers, and working with corporate sponsors to find out how best to use the PGA TOUR brand to deliver the message they want to get across. As a returning intern, I never thought I would have as much fun as I did last summer. But this internship, and the people that make up the program, just keeps getting better. Every single intern brings something different to the table and it's awesome to see how well everyone gets along. You work together, you live together, you eat together, and you hang out together. There is absolutely no better way to spend a summer. You learn a lot and meet a lot of cool people who are more than willing to help you out. You're here to do a job, but make sure to have a good time doing it.

PRODUCTIONS
office
Justin O'Neal
PGA TOUR Productions Intern, PGA TOUR 2007
University of Kansas
Major: Television News & Information

I would describe my position as a cross between a production assistant and producer. Half of my time here I am logging video from tournaments, interviews and various other shoots that PGA TOUR Productions shoots. The other half of the time I am working alongside the Producers. The real meat and potatoes of my learning is the time spent with the producers working on projects. This has included everything from merely observing when there is a crunch for time, to actual hands on work digitizing clips and using the non-linear editing software. I’ve also been fortunate to go to locations for shoots. The most fun I’ve had on the job has been working with a professional film crew, meeting the interviewees and then conducting the shoot. This also presented me the opportunity to interview Commissioner Finchem for an upcoming PGA of America event. Persistence and devotion to work have been the keys to making this internship successful this summer.

SALES
office
Katie Carls
Sponsorship & Sales Intern, Championship Management 2007
Western Illinois University
Major: Sport Management

I learned so much from orientation by listening to the speakers, and I have continued to learn through observing others, asking questions, and what I have worked on thus far. I am amazed at how much I didn’t know about the PGA TOUR. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that you learn to appreciate watching a golf tournament on television. All the employees truly enjoy working for the PGA TOUR. I have met some really awesome people and enjoy hanging out with everyone! We have a great time hanging out at UNF and going out on the weekends. Some of my best memories are going to be from this internship. Have fun and get out as much as you can and visit everything Florida has to offer! There is so much to do here so take advantage of it!

TOURNAMENT OPERATIONS
office
Mike Lacek
Bridgestone Invitational Operations Intern 2007
Baldwin-Wallace College
Major: Sport Management, Minor: Business Management

I am learning what it takes to get an event of such a large nature to its finished look. It takes great leadership and management skills along with being very well planned and organized. So far I have designed and compiled our credential board for this year which displays the required credentials to gain access to different areas located on the course. I have also dealt with customers and business clients who wish to purchase tickets, and I organized and compiled all the road signage materials that we will use and order. We all know that golf is a game of honesty and integrity, and the TOUR exudes exactly that as they truly care for who they are as individual people and an entity as its whole. I could not ask for a better opportunity.

LEGAL
office
Jessica Goodwin
Legal Department Intern, PGA TOUR 2007
Florida State University
College of Law

This summer has been an amazing learning experience. The attorneys that work for the TOUR are some of the most accomplished and hardworking individuals you will find. Interning with the legal department has exposed me to legal research on a variety of issues, and given me the opportunity to experience the multifaceted nature of in-house counsel work. Plus, everyone in the department is really helpful - a BIG plus for law students, as you will have lots of questions. Every day brings new and exciting challenges as there are a plethora of legal issues related to the golf industry. Also, the other TOUR interns help make the summer fun and exciting! From road trips, to going to the beach, to just hanging out together at the dorms, they're a huge part of what makes this internship special

ACCOUNTING
office
Jackie Levin
Golf Course Properties Accounting Intern, PGA TOUR 2007
Louisiana State University
Major: Accounting

Accounting is not something that you learn in a classroom, it is only by the daily performance of tasks that you are able to gain the skill set required when you enter the “real world”. My supervisors were very patient with me, answered all my questions and took the time to fully train me. Coming into this I knew that it would be a great experience, but I didn’t account for the experience I would have outside of the workplace. The group of people here are from all over the country and each person contributes something – I couldn’t imagine any of them not being here. I never expected that I would move here, but after the time I spent and the people I’ve met, I decided to stay and accepted a full time job with the TOUR. I look forward to coming to work every day and will never forget the summer I spent as an intern!

RETAIL LICENSING
office
Rygo Foss
Retail Licensing Intern, PGA TOUR 2007
University of Minnesota
College of Law

This summer is my second internship with the TOUR and I can honestly say that I have never woken up every morning actually excited for work. For the first time in my life, I don’t need the snooze button to get out of bed! A typical day for me involves arriving at work and reading the Wall Street Journal for a couple minutes, returning and writing emails needed to follow up on projects, networking, or golfing issues, then planning out what I will be working on for the day. Many of the projects I work on are projects that I have selected, that I am interested in, and truly enjoy doing that help the department. The people I work with are so impressive, and being in their presence and assisting as they conduct business has naturally made me a better business person. There is a vast amount of talent at the TOUR from every industry with every interest and passion imaginable available as a resource; nobody here is solely about golf. If you are interested in securities, there’s a person here with extensive investment banking experience; with real estate, probably one of the best real estate agents in the country; with law, the best lawyers from their cities; and so on.

office
Anovia Daniels
Public Relations Intern, World Golf Hall of Fame 2007
Saint Augustine’s College
Major: Communications

This is my second year interning with the PGA TOUR and I have had yet another amazing experience. This year I interned at the World Golf Hall of Fame and it has been a rewarding experience. I was able to work with incredible and talented people in the communications department and be involved in many of their projects. I have been exposed to marketing, public relations and promotions. Some of my projects included working on the Solheim Cup exhibit, assisting in planning the 2007 Induction Ceremony, assisting with the beginning stages of the annual Festival of Trees event, and executing the Hall of Fame Marketing Initiative. Another exciting part of my summer was meeting and hanging out with the other TOUR interns. I have developed lifelong friendships and had a great time being around this incredible group of people. They were definitely an important part in making this summer a success.
