Making his fourth pro start, Paul Chang (Tianjin, People’s Rep of China) carded a 5-under 65 Friday and is tied with Thomas Ponder (Dothan, Alabama) after the second round of the Osprey Valley Open. Chang and Ponder both finished the day at 12-under 128 and share a one-stroke lead entering the weekend at the TPC Toronto (Heathlands) in Caledon, Ontario.
Chang closed out his collegiate career at the University of Virginia in June and finished No. 13 in the PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 to earn PGA TOUR Americas membership this summer. After competing for the UVA Club Golf team during his freshman and sophomore years, Chang joined the Cavaliers' varsity program as a junior and went on to earn three victories, including a win at the NCAA Regionals and back-to-back victories in his final season.
He’s made the cut in all three starts since making his PGA TOUR Americas debut, with his best finish coming in his first event, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open presented by Syndeo, where he finished tied for 17th.
Ponder will join Chang in Saturday’s final pairing after finishing his second round with a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole to card a 4-under 66 Friday. The Alabama native is seeking his second win of the season following his victory at the Explore NB Open earlier this month. Ponder owns a tour-best seven top-10 finishes this season and has held the top spot in the PGA TOUR Americas Points List for two consecutive weeks
Connor Howe (Ogden, Utah) sits one shot back of the leaders at 11-under 129, after a second-round 64. In addition to Chang, two other members of the PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 are in the top five through two rounds, as Ole Miss alum Cohen Trolio (St. Simons Island, Georgia) and Illinois alum Ryan Voois (Orange County, California) are tied for fourth at 10-under 130.
Also advancing to the weekend is Canadian amateur Justin Matthews, who is T50 at 4-under in his first start on PGA TOUR Americas. Earlier this summer, Matthews finished T-29 at the RBC Canadian Open, played on the North Course at TPC Toronto.
