From Vincennes, Indiana, where he grew up on a family-owned farm, Schenk Sod. According to the Schenk Sod website, the Schenk family traces their roots in southern Indiana to 1925, and the business began to focus on turf (zoysia, fescue, bluegrass) in 1988. Schenk said of his favorite part of growing up on the farm, "Just being able to get away from everything, like taking the four-wheeler and going back where you'd almost get lost and have to take 10 extra minutes to find your way back to where you came from."
In 2024, Schenk partnered with his high school alma mater, South Knox High School, to host the first one-day 36-hole boys golf invitational in Indiana High School Athletic Association history -- the South Knox Invitational hosted by Adam Schenk, which later became known as the Adam Schenk Invite.
Has a Golden Retriever named Bunker. Takes Bunker out to play golf with him whenever he's playing solo at his home course in his longtime hometown of Vincennes, Indiana, saying, "I've learned to love practicing by myself and going and competing at our golf course at home, Cypress Hills (Golf Club) with my dog, Bunker. Every time I go, I take him out. Every time. He doesn't miss one time. He rides in the cart with me, chase the squirrels, he does all the stuff, runs amok, loves it."
Favorite sports teams are the Indianapolis Colts (NFL football), Indiana Pacers (NBA basketball), and St. Louis Cardinals (MLB baseball).
Often returns to Purdue University to practice with the golf team, and attend football and basketball games.
Close friends with fellow PGA TOUR winner Tyler Duncan. Their friendship began in 2007 at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin, Indiana, where the two played together in the IHSAA state finals. Both went on to win Indiana Amateur Championships, with Duncan capturing the 2011 title and Schenk earning the 2013 title. The two played their college golf at Purdue University, after which they played two seasons together on the Korn Ferry Tour, with both earning their PGA TOUR cards in fall 2017. Duncan was also the best man in Schenk's wedding in December 2019.
