Former PGA TOUR member Matt McQuillan, a proud Kingston, Ontario, native whose perseverance carried him to golf's highest level, has passed away. He was 45.
McQuillan earned his PGA TOUR card through 2010 PGA TOUR Q-School and competed on TOUR during the 2011 season following a long journey through PGA TOUR Canada, now PGA TOUR Americas, and developmental circuits.
McQuillan's most memorable TOUR performance came at the 2011 John Deere Classic, where he closed with a bogey-free 64 to finish tied for third, the best result of his TOUR career (32 starts). The remarkable Sunday charge captivated golf fans in his hometown of Kingston, where many followed his pursuit of a breakthrough PGA TOUR result.
Before reaching the TOUR, McQuillan enjoyed a standout amateur career in Canada and represented his country internationally. He turned professional in 2003 and captured the 2005 Telus Edmonton Open.
In recent years, McQuillan remained connected to the game as a teaching professional in his hometown, helping introduce and develop the next generation of Canadian golfers.
