Father competed in long drive competitions in the 1980s and 1990s, and has been Chad's only swing coach.

Two older brothers, Brett and Ryan, played baseball at University of Oregon. Ryan played four seasons (2010-13), while Brett played two at Oregon (2011, 2012) after a season at UC-Riverside and Riverside Community College.

Favorite sports team is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (MLB).
