Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. – THE PLAYERS Championship returns to Golf’s Greatest Stadium, May 6-12, and this year golf fans will be able to follow the event like never before, thanks to more than 100 hours of digital coverage from THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass to complement the 22 hours of live, limited-interruption telecasts on Golf Channel and NBC and a strong international presence.
From multiple mobile apps, to four-round coverage of LIVE@ THE PLAYERS streaming on PGATOUR.COM, or wall-to-wall radio coverage on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio, fans have a variety of ways to stay connected with the action and excitement.
Digital Coverage: New access and new features highlight the expansive digital coverage of THE PLAYERS. The PGA TOUR app is available for download on iPhone, Android, iPad, Windows Phone and – debuting during THE PLAYERS – Blackberry 10. These free apps feature live leaderboard and scorecards, play-by-play coverage, latest tournament news and video, player information, social media feeds and more. For those who don’t have one of these smartphones, the TOUR’s mobile-optimized website offers fans all the features of the application. Fans can access simulcasting of Golf Channel and NBC coverage of THE PLAYERS, plus there will be featured groups to follow for the first time on PGA TOUR digital platforms (pgatour.com, mobile and iPad), from 8:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. ET Thursday and Friday, and from 9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and Sunday. PGA TOUR Digital will follow two key groups each day, providing coverage outside the television window and complementary coverage during the telecast.
LIVE@, now in its 13th year at THE PLAYERS and a pioneer in delivering live golf to audiences on the Internet, will provide live play-by-play coverage of the 17th and 13th holes on Thursday and Friday beginning at 9 a.m. ET and continuing until 7 p.m. ET or the conclusion of play. On Saturday and Sunday, coverage will begin at 12 p.m. ET and end at 7 p.m. ET or the conclusion of play. This year, coverage will again be available on PGATOUR.COM, the PGA TOUR iPhone App, as well as the iPad and Android Apps.
Live Maps, available for download through livemaps.pgatour.com, features a Google map of the course that allows fans to track their favorite player from their mobile device, find the best viewing spots on the course, locate the nearest concessions, restrooms and more based on their GPS location.
The PGA TOUR will also have coverage on social media platforms through its official presences on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter, allowing fans to connect and share the event with other fans. In addition, the official PGA TOUR sites in China, Japan and South Korea will help fans from across the globe stay connected to THE PLAYERS. On practice round days, follow @THEPLAYERSChamp on Twitter for updates on when marquee players are heading to the range to warm up for their practice round; social media caddies will also provide updates on players’ locations throughout their practice rounds so fans can better locate and follow their favorite players on the course.
Finally, PGATOUR.COM, the web’s No. 1 golf site, will continue to provide comprehensive editorial, statistical and video coverage of THE PLAYERS. Extensive editorial coverage begins Monday and will include tournament analysis, player features, interviews and updates, including PGATOUR.COM’s exclusive real-time scoring and Shot Tracker (graphical scoring application).
Domestic Television: Once again, NBC and Golf Channel will provide a total of 22 hours of live coverage in high definition, with limited commercial interruption. Golf Channel will air six hours of live golf on Thursday and Friday (1-7 p.m. ET) and NBC will present five hours of coverage on Saturday and Sunday (2-7 p.m. ET). Each day will include limited commercial interruptions, thanks to the generous support of THE PLAYERS’ Proud Partner PwC.
In addition to the live coverage, Golf Channel will air primetime replays of competition on Thursday and Friday from 9 p.m.–12 a.m. ET. Golf Channel also has an extensive amount of ancillary programming scheduled around THE PLAYERS, including more than 100 hours of “Live From THE PLAYERS” . Additionally, NBC will air a special “Golf Central Live PreGame” show at 1:30 p.m. ET leading into the network’s third and final round coverage on Saturday and Sunday.
International Television: International coverage of the PGA TOUR remains strong; in 2013, THE PLAYERS will be broadcast to nearly 830 million households throughout 224 countries and territories in 32 languages. Live coverage will be seen on more than 60 channels, including new partners Sportcast (Taiwan) and OSN (Middle East).
Sky Sports (United Kingdom & Ireland) and NHK (Japan) will be on site at THE PLAYERS to produce telecasts back to their respective countries. In addition, five international broadcasters will be attending and announcing live from TPC Sawgrass as part of the “International Broadcast Village:” Viasat (Denmark); Viasat (Sweden); RDS (French Canada); Golf + France and ESPN (Latin America). The Village, launched last year with two broadcasters (Viasat Denmark and RDS), has become an integral part of THE PLAYERS and creates an authentic and informative telecast for viewers in their respective countries.
SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio: Now in its ninth season, SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio (Sirius 208, XM 93) will provide more than 50 hours of exclusive play-by-play coverage, talk programming, preview/review shows and media-center interviews from TPC Sawgrass this year.
Coverage of THE PLAYERS begins Monday from 2-5 p.m. ET with a special World Golf Hall of Fame Induction preview, followed by THE PLAYERS preview shows on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3-5 p.m.
THE PLAYERS Live play-by-play coverage will be available 12-7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, while an expanded 30-minute THE PLAYERS Replay show will air Thursday through Sunday beginning at 7 p.m. In addition, one-hour THE PLAYERS preview shows will air Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. again this year. SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio’s on-air team will be led this year by host Earl Forcey and analyst Mark McCumber, winner of THE PLAYERS in 1988 and a 10-time PGA TOUR champion. Reporting on the course will be Fred Albers, John Maginnes and Mark Carnevale. Matt Adams will also contribute by filling in as host, conducting player interviews and anchoring the preview shows.
Adams will also host his “Fairways of Life” show live from the World Golf Hall of Fame on Tuesday, and will broadcast from TPC Sawgrass Wednesday through Friday, from 7-9 a.m. ET. John Maginnes will host his “Maginnes on Tap” weekday program from TPC Sawgrass on Tuesday and Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. as well.
