2008 Toshiba Classic "Goes Green" on the Green with E-Waste Recycling Event

Newport Beach, Calif., February 6, 2008 - The Toshiba Classic announced today a new recycling program that will take place March 7 through 9 at the 2008 Toshiba Classic. As part of Toshiba's commitment to demonstrate a leading role in establishing a sustainable society, the "Swing for the Green" Toshiba Classic Recycling Event will provide the community with a free and easy way to responsibly dispose of e-waste. As a thank you, everyone who participates by bringing an item for recycling will receive two free admission tickets good for any one day of the tournament.

"Each year, we look for opportunities to strengthen our commitment to the community. The ‘Swing for the Green' recycling event is meant to provide Orange County residents with a responsible means to recycle their old electronic devices," stated Mark Simons, vice president and general manager, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. "By providing two free one-day passes to the tournament for bringing an electronic device to recycle, we hope to give everyone a day of entertainment and instill a sense of environmental responsibility for the future as they dispose of devices that have long since served their purpose."

Patrons are encouraged to bring their outdated electronic equipment between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day of the recycling event. Products including desktop PCs, laptops, computer monitors, printers, camcorders, fax machines, cell phones, VCRs, DVD players, rechargeable batteries, MP3 players and stereos can be dropped off at two different locations: the main entrance at the Newport Beach Country Club or the Newport Dunes public parking lot. (Please note that not all electronic items will be accepted. Items that will not be accepted include TVs, microwave ovens, refrigerators, smoke detectors, air conditioners and other major household appliances.)

Since 2005, Toshiba has participated in over 20 recycling events around the U.S., helping to keep recyclable metals, plastics and glass from reaching local landfills, while absorbing the costs, resulting in savings for local communities.

Environmental responsibility is a top priority of the Toshiba Classic. On the course, specially marked recycling bins will be placed throughout for recycling of plastics, cans, glasses and other waste. And to save energy, tournament management is working with vendors to ensure that generators are more efficient. In addition, the bus schedule has been modified to ensure maximum efficiency while reducing diesel use. These efforts, along with the inaugural recycling event, support Toshiba's global commitment to reducing its impact on the natural environment and to contribute to the establishment of a recycling-based society.
