Charles Schwab Cup Championship To Return To Sonoma Golf Club In 2007 And 2008

June 1, 2006

(Sonoma, CA)  --  Sonoma (CA) Golf Club and the Champions Tour today announced a contract extension by which the Charles Schwab Cup Championship will return to the club in 2007 and 2008.

The original four-year agreement between the two entities is in effect through this year's Championship, which will be played Oct. 24-29.  Tom Watson is the defending champion.

"Sonoma Golf Club has been a terrific host site the last three years and we can now look forward to two more years at the club," said Champions Tour president Rick George.  "With completion of its spectacular new clubhouse last year, the club provides excellent amenities and its championship golf course has produced memorable finishes each of the last three years."

"Sonoma Golf Club is proud to support the game of golf and the local community," said Sonoma Golf Club general manager Mike Kosak.  "The Club has always been a big supporter of Sonoma County charities and the opportunity to donate significant sums in both 2007 and 2008 was a deciding factor for the tournament extension.  We commend the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the Champions Tour for their commitment to the local charities."

The Charles Schwab Cup Championship is the Champions Tour's season-ending event and many of the Tour's annual honors are on the line, including the $2.1 million Charles Schwab Cup competition.  The last three Cup competitions have ended dramatically on the final day at Sonoma with Tom Watson (2003, 2005) and Hale Irwin (2004) prevailing.  In addition to the Charles Schwab Cup, the Championship is usually influential in determining both the Player of the Year/Jack Nicklaus Trophy and Arnold Palmer Award for leading money winner.

Past winners of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Sonoma Golf Club are 2003-Jim Thorpe, 2004-Mark McNulty and 2005-Tom Watson.

All four rounds will air live on The Golf Channel.

Tickets for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship are $100 for a week-long pass (wine festival included) and $45 for any one day (wine festival included).  One-day tickets only are $30 ($25 for spectators +55 years of age).  Tuesday and Wednesday practice round and pro-am tickets, good both days, are $30.  Clubhouse badges are available for $150 and include admission to the wine festival.  Tickets may be ordered by calling 707-939-4131 or visiting www.charlesschawbcupchampionship.com.
