Champions Tour
SONOMA, Calif. -- The Charles Schwab Cup Championship donated $292,500 to 10
Bay-area charities as a result of last fall's Champions Tour tournament, it was
announced today by Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, President of the Charles Schwab
Corporation Foundation and Championship Executive Director Chad Chatlos. The
announcement, made at the MATRIXFILLMORE in San Francisco, was hosted by the
Charles Schwab Cup Championship, with defending champion Jim Thorpe in
attendance.
"Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. believes very strongly in giving back to the
communities in which we do business," said Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz. "We are
proud of the fact that we were able to donate $292,500 to the Boys & Girls
Clubs of Sonoma County, The First Tee and other local charities as a result of
the Champions Dinner and the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. We look forward to
growing this number over the coming years and continuing to help build our
communities."
"On behalf of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship and the Champions Tour, we
are delighted to participate in today's announcement," said Chatlos. "We intend
to make the Championship better every year and in the process enhance the PGA
TOUR's tradition of giving back right here in Sonoma and the Bay Area. Our
top-30 players thoroughly enjoyed their first visit to Sonoma last fall and look
forward to returning again in October."
The 10 charitable organizations receiving funds are:
- The First Tee of San Francisco
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma County (split equally among seven clubs)
- Valley of the Moon Boys & Girls Club
- V-Foundation, Wine Celebration
- Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance
- Valley of the Moon Children's Foundation
- Hanna Boys Center
- Sonoma Aquatics Club
- Altimira School
- National Boys & Girls Club
"We are grateful to be one of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship charities
and so pleased to announce that because of generous gifts like this one our
programming for youngsters of San Francisco will begin in mid-April," said Bob
Cole, The First Tee of San Francisco's executive director.
The season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship, which features the year's
top-30 money winners, returns to Sonoma Golf Club in Sonoma, Calif., for the
second year, Oct. 18-24.
Since the first recorded donation in 1938, the three Tours of the PGA TOUR --
PGA TOUR, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour -- and their host tournament
organizations have raised more than $820 million for charity, with a record
$82.8 million generated in 2003.
