Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship

POTOMAC, Md. - Tournament officials today announced that major champions Hale Irwin, Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler have joined the line up of legends ready to take on the newly renovated TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm when the Champions Tour's final major of the season, the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship, heads to Potomac, MD on October 4-10.

"We are delighted to receive commitments from this trio of world-class players," said the championship's Executive Director Steve Schoenfeld.  "We look forward to hosting both players and fans at the redesigned TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm this fall." 

World Golf Hall of Fame member Irwin, the most decorated player in Champions Tour history, has collected 45 wins, three Player of the Year titles and over $25 million in official prize money since joining the Tour in 1995.  During his PGA TOUR career, Irwin won 20 times including three memorable U.S. Open victories in 1974, '79 and again ‘90 when he became the oldest player to win the event at the age of 45. The fan favorite has won seven major championships on the 50+ circuit, including the 1999 Senior Players Championship held at the TPC Michigan in Dearborn, MI, and claimed the season-long Charles Schwab Cup race in 2002 and 2004.

Sluman made history by winning the first of his six PGA TOUR titles at the 1988 PGA Championship at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond, OK.  He finished inside the top 100 on the money list for 22 straight seasons before joining the Champions Tour in 2007, where he's earned three victories.  A native of Rochester, NY, Sluman finished runner-up to Billy Andrade at the 1991 Kemper Open held at TPC Potomac.  He will serve as one of Captain Corey Pavin's assistants at this year's Ryder Cup to be held October 1-3 at The Celtic Club Resort in Newport, Wales.

Stadler is a 13-time winner on the PGA TOUR, with his biggest triumph coming at the 1982 Masters where he recovered from an opening round 75 to outlast Dan Pohl in a playoff at Augusta National.  One of golf's most colorful and popular personalities, "The Walrus" joined the Champions Tour in 2003 and has gone on to claim eight titles including a Senior Players Championship victory at TPC Michigan.

Irwin, Sluman and Stadler join previously announced players in the 2010 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship field including defending champion Jay Haas and World Golf Hall of Fame members Nick Price and Tom Watson.

TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, which hosted a PGA TOUR event from 1987-2004 and 2006, was recently named No. 12 on Golfweek's list of the "Best New Courses for 2009."  Current Champions Tour stars who won a PGA TOUR event at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm include Bill Glasson (1992), Gil Morgan (1990), Morris Hatalsky (1988) and Tom Kite (1987).
